CASTILE AND LEÓN STRENGTHENS ITS LEADERSHIP IN WINE TOURISM WITH ITS NINE CERTIFIED ROUTES

  • The Castile and León Wine Routes Association is holding a meeting in Madrid to consolidate the region’s tourism, economic and heritage profile.

Castile and León reaffirmed its leadership in the national wine tourism scene with an event held in Madrid organised by the Castile and León Wine Routes Association, aimed at highlighting the importance of wine tourism and gastronomic and cultural tourism as strategic drivers of development for the region and for Spain.

The event, held on 6 November at The Kitchen Club, brought together more than eighty journalists, influencers and professionals from the tourism, gastronomy and lifestyle sectors, who were able to see first-hand the work carried out by the nine certified routes that make up the Association: Arlanza, Arribes, Bierzo, Cigales, Rueda, Ribera del Duero, Sierra de Francia, Toro and Zamora.

During the event, representatives from each route showcased the diversity of their territories through interactive experiences combining wine, gastronomy, heritage and nature, highlighting the range of quality products, rural accommodation and tourist services that make Castile and León a competitive, sustainable and distinctive destination.

The event highlighted the role of routes as a tool for territorial cohesion and economic promotion, by encouraging local entrepreneurship, job creation and the deseasonalisation of tourism.

In his speech, the Director General of Tourism for the Regional Government of Castile and León, Ángel González Pieras, emphasised the value of wine tourism as a strategic sector: ‘The Wine Routes of Castile and León are an example of the quality of our tourism offering and also provide an ideal opportunity to show those interested in their services the richness of the different elements that make up the product and define the destination.’

For his part, Miguel Ángel Gayubo, president of the Castile and León Wine Routes Association, highlighted the inclusive nature of the project: “The routes transcend the product on which they are based: wine. They represent a model of cooperation that brings together wineries, producers, hoteliers, artisans and merchants under a single objective: to generate value and attract quality tourism to Castile and León. That is why the Regional Government of Castile and León is firmly committed to the Wine Routes and constantly supports their work.”

With nine certified routes, Castile and León is the Spanish region with the highest number of quality wine tourism destinations and also has the highest demand for wine tourism in Spain. Its leadership is based on the excellence of its wines and products, which draw on the diversity of its landscape and the authenticity of its heritage, as well as its commitment to sustainability and the professionalisation of the sector.

With initiatives such as this, the Castile and León Wine Routes Association continues to work towards consolidating a tourism model based on quality, cooperation and regional identity, which strengthens the competitiveness of the region and contributes to Spain’s economic and cultural growth.
