Türkiye, the world’s fourth largest tourist market according to data from the World Tourism Organisation in 2024, presented its tourism sector results for the first nine months of the year. During a press conference in Istanbul, the Mediterranean tourism hub reported significant growth in both visitor numbers and sector revenue.
The Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, announced that the country received 50 million international visitors during the first nine months of 2025, experiencing 1.6% growth in that period. He also reported that cumulative tourism revenue in these first nine months reached $50 billion, an increase of 5.7% over the previous year. The 50 million international visitors stayed an average of 10.3 nights, spending approximately £70 per person per night during the first nine months of 2025, reflecting a 7% increase over the previous year.
In the case of Spain, between January and September 2025, the number of Spanish visitors travelling to Türkiye was 343,413, with growth of 16.54%, standing out as one of the most dynamic source markets of the year.
Minister Ersoy stated: “The first nine months of 2025 presented significant challenges for our region. We have seen the effects of regional conflicts and seasonal changes caused by global warming. However, thanks to our strategy, we have exceeded last year’s revenue by 5.7% and reached the remarkable figure of $50 billion. This is the first time we have exceeded $50 billion in the third quarter. Looking ahead to the rest of the year, we will achieve our target of $64 billion in revenue.”
During the first nine months of the year, the three main source markets for visitors to Türkiye were Russia (5.53 million), Germany (5.22 million) and the United Kingdom (3.54 million). Likewise, and as confirmed in previous quarters, Spain, with 343,413 visitors, is positioned as a rapidly growing European market.
