The Cronicón de Oña offers a dramatised tour of the Baroque cloister of the Monastery of San Salvador.
On 6 December, the Baroque cloister of the Monastery of San Salvador de Oña (Burgos) will host a dramatised tour organised by El Cronicón de Oña, as part of the activities of the Abbey Market promoted by Oña Town Council. The proposal will feature three screenings at 11:00, 12:00, and 13:00.
Historical re-enactment: the year 1771
The action takes place in 1771, when the monastery was ruled by Abbot Cosme Ximénez. Two years earlier, Íñigo de Barreda, a monk and writer from Valladolid born in 1715, had arrived at the monastery. Barreda took holy orders in Oña in 1732 and was ordained on 1 March 1733 at the age of just 17. His figure has regained relevance thanks to the publication, by the Fundación Milenario de San Salvador, of the book he himself dedicated to Saint Íñigo.
Dramatic turn of events during the visit
In the dramatised tour, the audience plays the role of guests arriving at the monastery to stay. His arrival coincides with the presence of several women from Oña at the door, who are responsible for delivering the laundry, causing a certain amount of commotion that the host, Friar Luciano, is forced to explain.
Upon entering the guesthouse, visitors are greeted by Friar Íñigo de Barreda, who, thanks to his extensive knowledge of the monastery and its history, will act as an impromptu guide. The procession passes through, among other places, the courtyard of San Iñigo and the staircase, where Abbot Dom Cosme Ximénez joins them, thus completing a tour that combines historical information, humour and a carefully crafted 18th-century setting.
Tickets will be available on the 6th at the monastery gate.
In addition to the dramatised tour, the Abadia Market offers the chance to enjoy crafts, music, workshops and various cultural activities throughout the day in a unique heritage setting.
