Bodegas José Pariente takes another step forward in its commitment to sustainability with the implementation of Pariente Vivo, an innovative regenerative landscaping project that transforms the surroundings of the Rueda winery into a living, resilient and constantly evolving ecosystem.
“We understand winemaking as a responsibility that goes beyond the vineyard. This project is our way of looking to the future with consistency and hope,” explain Martina and Ignacio P. Pariente, directors of the winery.
A green lung to anticipate climate change
Developed in collaboration with El Ejidillo and Citerea, the project incorporates nature-based solutions to restore biodiversity, regenerate the soil and promote water self-regulation. Improving the biological fertility of the soil is at the heart of the Pariente Vivo project, where the land once again becomes a living organism that sustains biodiversity and guarantees the health of the vineyard.
The main actions include:
- 31,500 new plants, including trees, shrubs and low vegetation, species adapted to the climate of the area.
- Efficient irrigation with reclaimed water, which will progressively reduce resource consumption.
- Application of biochar, a living carbon that improves soil fertility and structure, helping to mitigate the effects of climate change.
- Digital monitoring with apps: Canopeo and Viticanopy, developed by the University of Adelaide (Australia), which allow real-time monitoring of the evolution of the landscape. José Pariente thus becomes the first winery in the world to apply this technology to a regenerative landscape environment.
In short, through the application of biochar, mycorrhizae and compost, the natural regeneration of the soil is promoted, improving its structure, its capacity to retain water and its biological balance.The project includes a trail through the vineyard that allows wine tourism visitors to discover the varietal diversity with which the winery works. The project also creates new habitats for pollinators, birds and beneficial auxiliary h , promoting a balanced ecosystem free of chemical treatments.
The landscape design of Pariente Vivo is inspired by the aromatic and chromatic palette of the winery’s wines. Evergreen greens serve as a backdrop to a succession of seasonal colours that evoke tasting notes and transform the environment into a dynamic and sensory landscape.
“We want to show that wine production can be a driving force for regeneration. In our case, innovation and sustainability always go hand in hand,” adds Martina Pariente, technical director.

A winery that marked a new era in white wines
In the heart of Rueda, the history of Bodegas José Pariente began more than two decades ago, founded by Victoria Pariente with the dream of producing a wine that reflected the authenticity of the Verdejo variety. Today, her children Martina and Ignacio Prieto Pariente continue this family vocation with a project that now includes three wineries — José Pariente (Rueda), Prieto Pariente (Castilla y León) and A Vilerma (Ribeiro) — united by common goals: excellence, respect for the environment and constant innovation.
Pariente has established itself as a benchmark in the production of high-end white wines, with an identity rooted in the land and a clear international outlook. From intensive zoning studies to expansion into new designations of origin (Bierzo and Ribeiro), the family has managed to combine tradition and innovation with a solid business vision.
