Its exceptional biodiversity, indigenous cultural heritage with more than fifty tribes, and landscapes make Uganda the most diverse country in East Africa. Experiencing a deep connection with wildlife, always in contact with and respectful of local communities, is now possible with Home to Africa.

The Pearl of Africa offers the chance to spot gorillas in cloud forests, sail down the White Nile and Lake Victoria, or share traditional ceremonies with indigenous communities without leaving the country, all in a single trip.

Home to Africa provides visitors with all the amenities they need to enjoy the experience

Uganda gives us a precious gift, everything that can be found in neighbouring countries. In addition, a more sensory and authentic form of safari is becoming established in the country: wildlife viewing on foot, which makes this a unique ecotourism experience for travellers. A total immersion that represents the purest way of understanding the ecosystem, in which the guide shares with visitors their knowledge of tracks, vegetation and interactions between species. What’s more, it allows you to enjoy the sounds of nature by turning off the engines of the jeeps that are usually used for photographic safaris.

From a wide variety of ecosystems, including tropical rainforests, high mountains, savannahs and lakes, to wildlife viewing, including the ‘Big Five’ that have made this paradise their natural habitat, this magnificent journey through the heart of East Africa will be a wonderful and unforgettable experience.

Elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos and hippos make up the ‘Big Five’ and the places where you are guaranteed to enjoy their magnificent sights are Queen Elizabeth National Park or Murchison Falls National Park, with their lush savannah and riverbanks.

It is also possible to venture into the misty forests of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga National Park to experience an encounter with gorillas.

Uganda is also a paradise for birdwatchers, with over a thousand species recorded, including the rare shoebill. The ideal place to observe them is in the dense forests of Kibale National Park or the wetlands of Lake Mburo National Park.

Diverse, spectacular and unique landscapes. From the breathtaking Kidepo Valley to the tranquil beauty of Lake Bunyonyi, Uganda’s pristine landscapes will remain etched in our memory, as will its tropical rainforests, waterfalls and serene waterways. The country has ideal locations for adventure activities such as rafting down the Nile, hiking to the Sipi Falls or trekking in the Rwenzori Mountains.

And, of course, connect with and immerse yourself in the customs of more than fifty indigenous tribes to delight in their traditional music and dances, sample Ugandan cuisine, experience the bustling markets of its cities and the most colourful festivals.

This is where we can soak up the warm and friendly hospitality of the Ugandans, who make travellers feel welcome. From the streets of Kampala to remote villages, you will be greeted with kindness and smiles.

The best time to visit the country is during the dry seasons, which run from June to August and December to February, when wildlife viewing is at its best.

To enjoy all these experiences, it is essential to contact a local agency that organises tailor-made stays, as safaris and wildlife viewing cannot be done freely and it is necessary to book tours which, among other services, take care of processing all permits with the local authorities, thus ensuring both the safety of travellers and the protection of the environment. This is where Home to Africa comes in. Not only will they ensure that you have all the necessary permits, but they will also provide you with an experience that you will remember and recommend.

Gorilla sighting, one of the most impressive experiences

Gorilla watching transcends tourism, becoming a deeply moving and unique experience. The nearly four hundred specimens of this species, approximately half of the world’s population, settled in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, make the country the leading destination for this experience.

This unique experience, which takes place in a fragile environment, requires meticulous preparation with the necessary guidance of a local operator such as Home to Africa, with proven experience and commitment to conservation. In addition to a high degree of respect and protection for these majestic primates and their environment and, of course, an intact capacity for wonder.

Nothing disturbs his rest

When carrying out this activity, it is essential to comply fully with the following rules. You must be at least fifteen years old, although under very specific conditions and managed by the agency, minors aged fourteen and above may participate accompanied by special permits. Be in good physical shape, given the demanding nature of the walks in mountainous and jungle terrain. If you have any significant mobility difficulties, you must notify Home to Africa in advance in order to receive specific advice. If you have a cold or any other infectious disease, you will not be allowed to participate in the viewing in order to avoid the risk of transmission to the gorillas, who are extremely vulnerable to human diseases. Likewise, if you sneeze or cough, you must cover your mouth and move away from the animals to minimise the potential risk of infection. Respect and discretion when approaching family groups, with a minimum distance of ten metres being mandatory. The use of flash on cameras is also prohibited in order not to frighten or disturb the animals. Similarly, activities such as smoking, eating or drinking are prohibited throughout the entire monitoring process, especially when gorillas are nearby. It is important to avoid looking directly into the eyes of gorillas, especially the silverback—the dominant male—as this can be interpreted as a challenge or aggression. Throughout the experience, it is essential to remain calm, speak quietly, and avoid laughter or loud noises. Although its size may be intimidating, it is essential to remain calm and follow the guide’s instructions if an individual approaches, avoiding sudden movements that could be misinterpreted. The time for direct observation is strictly limited to one hour, an intense and unforgettable period.

At the end, participants receive an official certificate attesting to their participation in this extraordinary activity, a tangible testimony to an encounter that goes beyond a simple tourist experience.

This experience is much more than an encounter with nature in its purest form; it is also an active commitment to the conservation of an emblematic and endangered species. Undertaking this experience with Home to Africa guarantees compliance with all regulations and a safe and respectful deep immersion in one of the most valuable biodiversity sanctuaries on the planet.
