- The De Veí a Veí Foundation and Lambicus are launching an IPA and a Blonde Ale to buy food for vulnerable families in the Sant Antoni neighbourhood of Barcelona.
- Beers from the neighbourhood, made by people from the neighbourhood, to take care of the people from the neighbourhood.
Manso and Mistral are now much more than just the names of two well-known streets in Barcelona’s Sant Antoni neighbourhood: they are the names of two new craft beers that have just been created in the heart of the neighbourhood with the aim of caring for it. The De Veí a Veí Foundation and Lambicus, with local production by St. Boi Brewery and original illustrations by Reskate Studio, have just launched these two new craft beers this December, each with its own identity and a clear objective: to transform neighbourhood culture into real social impact. One hundred per cent of the profits from their sale will go towards buying food for the families served by the De Veí a Veí Foundation, an organisation that has been supporting vulnerable individuals and households in the Sant Antoni neighbourhood for more than ten years.
Two neighbours, two ways of toasting
But Manso and Mistral are not just beers: they are two imaginary neighbours inspired by the streets and soul of the neighbourhood. On the one hand, MANSO is lively, Mediterranean and open. It gives its name to a fresh 6% IPA, aromatic, balanced and very easy to drink, designed for those who seek intensity without harshness. MISTRAL, on the other hand, is free, dreamy and approachable. It inspires a smooth and refreshing Blonde Ale, accessible and light, ideal for both craft beer lovers and those trying it for the first time. Both are also gluten-free.
‘We wanted to create products that explained the neighbourhood, that were good beers, and, above all, that would directly help the families around us,’ explain the Fundació De Veí a Veí.
Design with street spirit
The labels, created by the renowned Reskate Studio, evoke the spirit of Barcelona’s liveliest and most active neighbourhood. Sant Antoni is a corner of the city where local commerce, culture and community life continue to set the pace of everyday life. That is why the Mistral and Manso labels evoke a spirit that combines tradition and modernity. With powerful and iconic graphic language, they are reminiscent of urban murals and popular contemporary images, turning each bottle into a small piece of neighbourhood culture.
The best drink at Christmas... and every other day of the year
Manso and Mistral beers, neighbourhood beers made by local people for local people, can be purchased at Lambicus Shop, at 9 Rocafort Street, as well as at the headquarters of the De Vei a Vei Foundation, at 77 Comte Borrell Street. They will also be available at all neighbourhood events and soon, at various partner outlets.
A bit of history: the origin of the ‘Veïnes’
This charitable project has a history. The first ‘Veïna’ was born from a collaboration between the De Veí a Veí Foundation and Lambicus, specialists in Belgian beers. For this reason, that first beer—an aromatically seductive IPA, creamy on the palate and delicately dry and bitter—was produced with the Belgian brewery Jandrain-Jandrenouille.
The De Veí a Veí volunteer community actively participated in the entire process: from tasting and selecting the flavour profile to naming and designing the label, illustrated by Luisa Vera, which features a stunning neighbour tending to the flowers on her balcony.
The charitable goal was the same one that inspires Manso y Mistral today, and the results were clear: more than €6,000 raised from the sale of some 5,000 litres, all of which went to projects assisting individuals and families in need in the Sant Antoni neighbourhood.
