The tourist destination brand ‘Turismo Industrial Duero Douro’ (Duero Douro Industrial Tourism), part of the European Interreg POCTEP INGENIOS Duero Douro project, was presented on 22 January at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) at the CIM Trás-os-Montes stand in Madrid.
The event served to publicise this new cross-border tourism initiative between Spain and Portugal, aimed at promoting the industrial heritage of the Duero/Douro region as a cultural and tourist resource. During the presentation, the map of industrial heritage resources, the map of synergies and agents in the region, and the main lines of work of the project were shown.
Likewise, the two exhibition spaces planned within the framework of the project were advanced: one in the Complexo Industrial do Cachão (Portugal) and the other in Aceñas de Zamora (Spain), conceived as hubs for the interpretation and dissemination of industrial heritage. The initiative is complemented by the design of various themed tourist routes, aimed at structuring a sustainable, innovative and shared tourist offer in the territory.
The event was attended by Pedro Lima, director of CIM Trás-os-Montes, and Joaquín García, representing the Santa María la Real Foundation, and was closed by the president of Turismo do Porto e Norte de Portugal, Luís Pedro Martins, who emphasised the importance of cross-border cooperation in promoting new models of cultural tourism linked to industrial heritage.
