- On 2, 3 and 4 April at 11.00 am and 5.30 pm, wine tourism is enjoyed with the children: they visit the vineyard, tour the winery and, at tasting time, the adults sample three wines whilst the children have their own experience, tasting grape must and taking part in a painting workshop.
- The trip can also be turned into a fantastic getaway by choosing to stay overnight at La Posada de Pradorey, a 17th-century Herrerian-style gem that has hosted illustrious figures, and discovering its new cuisine, inspired by the surrounding landscape.
Wine tourism has become part of our leisure activities, and as a fun outing, the ideal is to enjoy it as a family, including the youngest members of the household. With Easter just around the corner and those days off school, Bodegas Pradorey (Carretera CL – 619 km 66, 1. Gumiel de Mercado, Burgos. Tel. 947 54 69 00), right in the heart of the Ribera del Duero and just an hour and a half from Madrid, is reviving a wine tourism activity designed for the whole family.
In this special programme —designed for children aged 5 and over— wine tourism is adapted so that everyone can enjoy it. The visit begins in the vineyard, one of the areas that children love most and find most fascinating, where the parts of the vine are explained, before continuing on to tour the winery, from the bustling bottling room to the barrel room where silence reigns, not forgetting one of Pradorey’s gems, its jar room, or the imposing bottle graveyard. That’s the plan so far, and when it comes to the tasting, the adults enjoy three top-quality wines whilst the children have their own tasting session – in this case, of grape must – and also take part in a painting workshop.
This activity, which combines nature, culture and fun, can be enjoyed on 2, 3 and 4 April – right in the middle of Holy Week – and is available in the mornings at 11:00 am and in the afternoons at 5:30 pm. The price is €36 for adults and €15 for children.
The experience can be complemented with a meal at the restaurant of La Posada de Pradorey, located 2 km from the winery, whose menu features local ingredients, many of them produced on the Pradorey estate itself, such as dishes made with beef, suckling lamb, wild boar, apples, honey, milk and cheeses…
The family experience can become unforgettable if you also stay overnight at this inn —owned by the Cremades family, just like the winery—, a gem of Herrerian style dating from the 17th century which has hosted illustrious figures throughout history such as Juana la Loca, Cervantes, Philip IV and the Duke of Lerma, who rebuilt it on the ruins of the hunting lodge of the Catholic Monarchs in 1601 to accommodate King Philip III. With this history and the anecdotes of each of its visitors, it has become one of the most unique and highly recommended places to stay in the area. For example, Rubens completed his famous equestrian portrait of the Duke of Lerma here; it is now in the Prado Museum but spent many years on the walls of this building. It has 18 rooms, and extra beds can be added to many of them.
