The expected occupancy rates for this Easter confirm that outdoor tourism is no longer a secondary option but has established itself as one of the preferred leisure choices during holiday periods.
According to data from Pitchup.com, the leading platform for outdoor accommodation bookings, campsite bookings in Spain for this Easter have risen by 48% compared to the same period last year, in line with the global trend in the sector, which has seen a 49% increase on the platform.
“Spain continues to demonstrate a unique ability to attract travellers who prioritise contact with nature as the central focus of their holidays,” says Dan Yates, founder and director of Pitchup.com.
Greater forward planning and balanced demand
So far, travellers have booked their accommodation an average of 48.3 days in advance, showing a growing interest in securing their preferred destination. Added to this is an average stay of 2.9 nights, reaffirming camping in Spain as a competitive holiday option.
Furthermore, this trend is underpinned by balanced demand, with the domestic market complemented by strong international interest. Up to half (51%) of bookings are made by Spanish travellers, whilst, internationally, travellers from the United Kingdom lead the way in bookings, followed by tourists from Germany and France.
Quality time and bespoke experiences
Shared experiences are the driving force behind these getaways, with couples accounting for 54.2% of bookings and families for 35.7%.
Furthermore, flexibility and independence during this Easter period remain key factors for Pitchup.com users, with 80% of campers opting for traditional camping, using their own caravans, motorhomes or tents. Meanwhile, glamping continues to gain ground, with the remaining 20% choosing this option, which combines luxury with a chance to unwind in natural surroundings.
Catalonia and Andalusia: the top destinations this spring
A unique blend of sea and mountains continues to make Catalonia the region with the highest occupancy rates on the platform. Camping Lava, situated in the heart of the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park, is the perfect destination for a truly immersive rural experience.
Meanwhile, Andalusia is cementing its position as the second most sought-after destination for enjoying its cultural riches during Easter and a climate that invites visitors to enjoy the first sunny getaways of the year. In the Guadalhorce Valley, Málaga Monte Parc allows guests to combine the vibrancy of local traditions with a chance to unwind in a stunning natural setting.
