- From north to south, the province is divided into six areas, allowing visitors to explore Palencia’s natural, gastronomic and cultural riches in depth.
- Six local hosts, each leading a tourism project, act as guides, suggesting the best way to experience each route.
- The mountains of Palencia, moors and valleys, Tierra de Campos, Cerrato Palentino and Palencia and water are just some of the highlights of these six new routes waiting to be discovered.
The Descubre Palencia Association takes another step forward in its aim to bring the province and its riches closer to everyone with the creation of six new routes, which, thanks to six hosts and various collaborators, have been carefully crafted so that travellers can explore the province of Palencia in stages.
These routes are detailed on the Association’s website and, through a map, a description of places of interest with links, and a short video, they give travellers a clear idea of the itinerary, enabling them to plan their getaway much more effectively.
According to the Association’s spokesperson, Isabel Olivares: “The Descubre Palencia Association is currently experiencing a period of growth; over the last year, three new members have joined, and together we want to give it a boost with a common goal: to showcase the treasures of this region that are still waiting to be discovered. In 2026, we hope to continue growing and evolving through joint collaboration on initiatives such as the new routes, which we are particularly excited about.”
Route 1. Northern Palencia and the Mountains: Where history meets the mountains
Begoña Moral, co-owner of the Convento de Mave, a former Benedictine monastery converted into a boutique hotel and restaurant, is the ambassador for this mountain and culture route, which invites visitors to explore the northern part of the province. From here, she invites you to visit, amongst other places, the Horadada Canyon and the Las Loras Geopark, Aguilar de Campoo, or to cycle the “Camino Olvidado” route.

Route 2. Moors and Valleys: Herrera and Water
Ana San Millán, ambassador for the “Herrera and Water” route, is the owner of La Casita de la Ribera and has put together an itinerary in which water, crabs, history and nature take centre stage. Among other things, she suggests taking the “Marqués de la Ensenada” boat trip along the Canal de Castilla, visiting the “Casa del Cangrejo” museum and an archaeological exhibition that recreates a Roman military camp.

Route 3. Tierra de Campos: Canal and Way
Maite and Octavio fell in love with Palencia and, from Frómista and their eco-hotel Doña Mayor (soon to be known as Terrafranca), they encourage everyone to discover this part of the province, a crossroads and a key point on the French Way of St James. A cultural tour of Frómista, the Canal de Castilla and its locks, the century-old Salazar bakery and the cuisine of the Hostería de los Palmeros are all part of this getaway.

Route 4. Tierra de Campos: Stars and the Renaissance
Isabel Olivares, owner of the Sanmartina Hotel in Becerril de Campos, acts as a guide on this route, which invites travellers to discover the stars at San Pedro Cultural and to visit part of the Campos del Renacimiento Regional Museum in the Church of Santa María. She also suggests enjoying a tasting of local cheeses at her hotel and visiting the city of Palencia, its cathedral and the Cristo del Otero.

Route 5. The Cerrato Palentino region: In search of the stones of the Cerrato
Cristina Brunet is the owner of Finca El Cercado and invites travellers to discover the village of Baltanás from her hotel, the perfect base for relaxing and enjoying the natural surroundings of the estate’s 50 hectares. There’s also time to visit the Bodegas de Baltanás district and the Cerrato Museum, and to enjoy various culinary experiences such as the ‘La Zarcera’ wine tourism centre, the ‘La Despensa del Cerrato’ restaurant or ‘La posada del Cerrato’.

Route 6. The Cerrato Palentino region: Cigales Designation of Origin
Amada de Salas Ortega, the fifth generation at the helm of the entirely underground Remigio Salas Winery, invites travellers from her village, Dueñas, to visit its nine interconnected galleries and experience first-hand the production of her family’s wines, their century-old vineyards and the apiaries, situated at the heart of the estate. She also invites us to explore the town’s cultural heritage, including its wine cellar district, the Monastery of San Agustín and the Church of Santa María de la Asunción.
