Lexus will present the world premiere of “SPACE”, an immersive installation inspired by the iconic Lexus LS Concept, at Milan Design Week 2026.

‘SPACE’ will be unveiled at the leading international design exhibition, taking place in Milan from 21 to 26 April. It will be presented alongside four new works from Discover Together 2026, a collaboration between emerging creators and Lexus designers, at Superstudio Più in the heart of the city’s Tortona creative district.

‘SPACE’ and the new era of mobility

Since the brand’s inception, Lexus has forged its own path, challenging conventions and redefining the principles of luxury mobility. Guided by its innovative mindset, it continues to push the boundaries to create better products and services, crafting new experiences for its customers.

‘SPACE’ is defined by Lexus’s constant quest to exceed expectations and focuses on the Lexus LS Concept to explore the meaning of ‘space’ in the context of a modern luxury lifestyle.

Today, the automotive industry is transitioning from the traditional concept of the car towards a new era of mobility that will offer greater freedom of movement and lifestyle enhancements. Work, personal life and movement are becoming increasingly and seamlessly interconnected, allowing people to embrace more authentic and fulfilling lifestyles.

In this future, mobility is transformed from a simple means of transport into a new experience that reimagines space itself. ‘SPACE’ is an opportunity to discover a new vision of mobility that is yet to be defined.

Discover Together

Launched in 2025, Discover Together is an initiative that brings together emerging creators who connect with Lexus, transforming the brand’s vision and philosophy through their own perspectives into works that express new values.

With the Lexus LS Concept as their shared inspiration, they have collaborated with Lexus to create immersive and experiential works that explore the possibilities of space. These works will be presented at Milan Design Week 2026.

This year’s participants include Kyotaro Hayashi and Yumi Kurotani (Japan), Guardini Ciuffreda Studio (Italy), Random Studio (Netherlands) and a collaborative team bringing together Lexus designers and master craftsmen of Japanese craftsmanship (Japan).

Discover Together: Creator Profiles

Kyotaro Hayashi (left) and Yumi Kurotani (right)

Filmmaker Kyotaro Hayashi and artistic director Yumi Kurotani form a creative duo that explores light and sound, space and imagery, as well as the distinctive textures inherent in physical materials. By delicately interweaving these diverse elements, they seek to create experiences centred on beauty and human sensibility.

Kyotaro Hayashi is a filmmaker and photographer who graduated from Tama Art University and continued his career at DRAWING AND MANUAL. His work has been recognised with numerous honours in Japan and internationally, including a Special Prize at the Venice Biennale and the iF DESIGN AWARD.

He is currently a part-time lecturer at Tama Art University.

Yumi Kurotani works as an art director, photographer and ceramic artist. She graduated from the Department of Environmental Design at Tama Art University and studied at Aalto University in Finland, where she was exposed to the philosophy of Nordic design. After joining Shiseido’s Creative Division as a recent graduate, she established her independent practice in 2023. Her work has received multiple awards, including the Gold Prize at the Japan Spatial Design Awards, selection as a finalist for the FRAME Awards 2020 Window Display of the Year Grand Prix, and the ACC Gold Award.

Their collaborative work transforms light into a language that evokes emotion, whilst layers of space rise to form narratives that speak to the human memory. Rather than positioning their works as objects for silent observation alone, they are conceived as immersive installations that invite visitors to sharpen their senses and delve deeply into the experience.

By fusing thoughtful design with an intuitive aesthetic, they continue to seek out experiences that leave a profound sense of wonder and an unforgettable impression on the minds of those who experience them.

Guardini Ciuffreda Studio is a team formed through collaboration with emerging designers. It centres on the studio’s founders, designer Tiziano Guardini and architect Luigi Ciuffreda, alongside Ananya Jain (architecture), Giulia Giavatto (interior design) and Riccardo Stufano (visual design).

The studio’s philosophy is deeply rooted in sustainability, material intelligence and natural systems, expressed through a design language defined by organic forms, tactile surfaces and an aesthetic inspired by nature. Bringing together fashion, architecture, interior design and visual design, the studio places fashion and space at the heart of its pursuit of a research-based practice that dissolves the boundaries between space and material. These become a language that transforms into narrative. The work invites surprise and participation, unfolding as experiential installations that are not only meant to be observed, but also to be felt, both physically and emotionally.

In this collaborative team, Lexus designers join forces with master craftsmen of Japanese craftsmanship to take on the challenge of creating original Japanese art.

Their expertise spans a rich and diverse range of skills and creativity: the Kumiko craftsmanship of Shikan Tategu Kogei, passed down and continually refined over three generations in the foothills of the Suzuka Mountains in Mie; the stonework of Inagaki Sekizai-ten, which has pursued the beauty and potential of stone for over a century; the tradition and innovation of Tendo Mokko’s bentwood, which reveals new possibilities for wood through moulded plywood; and the craftsmanship of a WorldSkills Olympics champion in wood modelling, whose skills have long underpinned Toyota’s car manufacturing. Through Lexus’s imagination, these elements come together and are elevated into an art form that transcends time.
