HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS SAN SEBASTIÁN-ERRENTERÍA OPENS ITS DOORS IN THE NEW “ALTZATE BERRI” DEVELOPMENT AREA

  • IHG Hotels & Resorts and Hotel Collection Internacional (HCI), a leading multi-brand hotel management company, have announced the opening, last Wednesday, of the Holiday Inn Express San Sebastián–Errentería.

  • Located in the new urban development area ‘Altzate Berri’ (New Alzate), a strategic location on the banks of the River Oiartzun and just 15 minutes from the centre of San Sebastián (7.5 km).

The new establishment — which joins the portfolio managed by Hotel Collection International under the Holiday Inn Express by IHG Hotels & Resorts brand — adds 82 rooms to San Sebastián’s hotel offering, with a modern, functional concept aimed at both leisure and business travellers. Its opening reinforces the momentum of ‘Altzate Berri’ and represents a boost for the economic revitalisation of San Sebastián and Errentería.

The hotel stands on a built area of 2,500 square metres, spread over six floors and a basement, and has its own car park with 38 spaces. The construction work was completed in just under a year and a half, a timeframe that highlights the efficiency of a project designed to meet the growing demand for hotel accommodation in the province of Guipúzcoa. Its design combines contemporary lines, comfort and practicality, with rooms designed to offer a comfortable and functional stay.

The location of the new hotel offers a distinct advantage due to its excellent links to San Sebastián Airport in Hondarribia, situated some 20–25 minutes away, and its proximity to San Sebastián’s main business districts. Added to this is quick access to Bilbao and Biarritz airports, the latter in France, both approximately an hour and a quarter away, further enhancing its appeal to domestic and international travellers. The rates at the new Holiday Inn Express, which always include breakfast, also reinforce its competitive offering in the market.

The hotel’s green surroundings add a unique value to the guest experience. Surrounded by nature and with unobstructed views of the River Oiartzun, the hotel invites guests to unwind and find peace. Its commitment to sustainability is reflected in concrete measures, such as the elimination of single-use plastics and the provision of free filtered water. This combination of well-being, design and environmental commitment aligns with the expectations of today’s traveller and with a destination increasingly aware of the importance of preserving its environment.

The construction of this hotel is one of the spearheads of the transformation of the former industrial sites in Altzate. Where small factories, workshops and activities linked to the River Oiartzun once coexisted, an emerging, modern neighbourhood is now taking shape, enhancing San Sebastián’s profile. This new urban development incorporates green spaces, riverside promenades and energy-efficient homes, creating a revitalised landscape that builds upon Errentería’s industrial past.

“With the opening of the Holiday Inn Express San Sebastián-Errentería, we are strengthening the presence of a leading international brand in a city that is highly representative of the Basque Country, establishing high standards of quality, service and guest satisfaction,” said Sebastian Lodder, CEO of HCI. “This project will boost the local economy and create new jobs, which we are filling in collaboration with the Basque Employment Service – Lanbide and Turismo Oarsoaldea, organisations to whom we are particularly grateful for their involvement.”
