- The BMW Group has launched the call for entries for the 41st edition of the BMW Painting Prize, one of the most prestigious competitions on the national art scene.
With a history spanning more than four decades, the prize has cemented its role as a promoter of creative talent and a key platform for showcasing new forms of artistic expression, ranging from contemporary painting to digital art.
Since its inception in 1986, the Prize has attracted entries from over 29,000 artists of more than 39 nationalities, becoming a showcase for excellence, diversity and artistic innovation. Over the years, the BMW Group has remained steadfast in its commitment to culture, evolving alongside art and adapting to its new forms of expression, whilst also integrating digital creation into the competition.
The jury for this 41st edition will be composed of renowned figures from the world of art and culture, including: Antonio López, painter, sculptor and draughtsman; Miguel Zugaza, director of the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum; Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, founder and president of the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo; Guillermo Solana, artistic director of the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum; and Lucía Casani, director of the Carasso Foundation.
Entries will be assessed on the basis of both their artistic merit and the artist’s career and potential, taking into account their CV, portfolio of previous work and the conceptual approach of the submitted piece.
The competition comprises two mutually exclusive categories: the BMW Painting Prize, worth €25,000, and the BMW Digital Art Prize, worth €6,000.
In the last edition, the Navarran artist Amaya Suberviola won the prize in the Painting category for her work “ST25061 (Coger una pestaña con los dedos)”, whilst in the Digital Art category the award went to Chino Moya for his audiovisual piece “Metapope”.
