A new evening in the 19th Chamber Music Series of the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra (OFM), next Tuesday 12 May at 7 pm in the Christine Ruiz-Picasso Auditorium. The OFM Cellists is the ensemble comprising Tilman Mahrenholz, Carlos González, Violeta Albert, Carlos Puerto, Olga Tarasova and María Eugenia Silguero, who will take to the stage on this occasion at the Christine Ruiz-Picasso Auditorium in the Museo Picasso Málaga. The programme is highly varied, ranging from Giacomo Puccini to Astor Piazzolla and Édith Piaf, amongst other composers, with arrangements by various authors.
In the first part, the cellists will begin with Giacomo Puccini (1858–1924) and an excerpt from the opera Tosca, ‘E lucevan le stelle’. The other piece on the programme is by Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887–1959), entitled ‘Bachianas Brasileiras No. 1’.
As for the second part of the concert, the selected compositions are by Gabriel Fauré (1845–1924), Pavane in F-sharp minor, Op. 50, and Dmitri Shostakovich (1906–1975), with Suite for Variety Orchestra – Waltz No. 2 and Traditional (Spiritual) Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen. Also featured will be Astor Piazzolla (1921–1992), with Oblivion and Caliente; Paul Desmond (1924–1977), with Take Five; Édith Piaf (1915–1963) and Marguerite Monnot (1903–1961) with their Hymne à l ’amour, Frank Churchill (1901–1942) and Someday My Prince Will Come, Chabuca Granda (1920–1983) and La flor de la canela, and Irving Caesar (1895–1996) and Vincent Youmans (1898–1946) with Tea for Two. To finish in style, with Stephen Sondheim (1930–2021) and Leonard Bernstein (1918–1990) and their West Side Story – America.
