Highlights for travellers
Atlanta is a city full of discoveries for travellers: in addition to its many attractions, it boasts a vibrant cultural scene and a prestigious culinary offering widely recognised by the Michelin Guide. The dozens of parks that criss-cross the city, known as the Beltline, have earned Atlanta the nickname “The Emerald City”, with 50% of its area covered in trees. A visit to Piedmont Park, the Atlanta Botanical Garden, or a park designed by Olmsted—the architect of New York’s Central Park—is highly recommended.
Enthusiasts can also visit the Delta Flight Museum, the world’s finest aviation museum. Located on Delta Boulevard and covering an area of 6,000 square metres, this museum of the century-old aviation company is a must in Atlanta. It features two hangars housing aircraft dating from the 1920s to the present day, including the historic DC-3, as well as the B747, DC-9 and B757. In addition to the aircraft display, there is a flight simulator and plenty of interactive information.
Visiting the headquarters of the iconic Coca-Cola is another of the city’s essential activities, as are the studios of the CNN news network. Other ideas include heading to Peachtree Avenue Centennial Olympic Park, strolling through the locations where series such as The Walking Dead or Stranger Things were filmed…
Added to all this is one of those places that will make your stay in Atlanta a truly meaningful experience: the birthplace of the historic civil rights activist Martin Luther King, located in a picturesque neighbourhood full of old wooden buildings.
Getting around Atlanta and the surrounding area is relatively easy even without a private car. The city has a public transport system called MARTA, and you can plan your journeys here.
Atlanta, then, is synonymous with business, aviation and journalism… But it is also a city brimming with culture, nature, gastronomy and, of course, football. A place to enjoy alternative experiences and discover authentic spots that will meet the expectations of fans seeking the perfect blend of supporting their team and sightseeing.
