The premium airline, which operates the only direct route between Spain and Hong Kong, is also celebrating its 80th anniversary this year.
Cathay Pacific, the Hong Kong-based premium airline, is marking its 10th anniversary in Spain this year. A decade ago, on 2 June 2016, the first commercial flight took off from Madrid, connecting Spain directly with Hong Kong, one of the world’s major cities, right in the heart of Asia.
Since then, the airline has continued to strengthen its connectivity between the Spanish market and the Asia-Pacific region, including a second direct route from Barcelona, to establish a current service of up to eight return flights a week to Hong Kong, combining both cities.
Today, Cathay Pacific remains the only airline offering non-stop flights between two Spanish cities and Hong Kong, facilitating connections to Asia and Oceania from one of the world’s leading aviation hubs.
To mark this significant milestone, Ronald Lam, Group Chief Executive of Cathay, was present at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, coinciding with the arrival of a Cathay Pacific aircraft featuring the iconic commemorative ‘lettuce sandwich’ livery, unveiled earlier this year on one of the airline’s A350-900 aircraft. The Group’s CEO was also accompanied by the airline’s cabin crew, who are wearing vintage uniforms commemorating the company’s different eras as part of the celebrations. These uniforms pay tribute to the people who, over the years, have helped build the airline’s identity and its distinctive service. More than 2,000 cabin crew and ground staff will wear these uniforms throughout the year to mark the brand’s 80th anniversary.
Brian Tsoi, Regional General Manager for Europe, commented: “Today is a very special day for us, as we celebrate our first decade connecting Spain with Hong Kong and the rest of the Asia-Pacific region. These ten years have been an extraordinary journey, during which Spain has established itself as a strategic market, thanks to the trust of our customers. Looking ahead, we will continue to work with the same enthusiasm, strengthening our connectivity and enhancing our customers’ experience, with the aim of remaining the preferred service brand for those travelling between Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.”
