Círculo Fortuny, the association representing Spain’s leading high-end brands and companies, held an institutional and business meeting in Mexico City with the aim of strengthening the sector’s international profile in one of its strategic markets. The event took place at the Spanish Ambassador’s residence and brought together executives from Spanish brands, Mexican businesspeople, opinion leaders and representatives from the cultural, artistic, social and journalistic spheres.
The initiative forms part of the international strategy that Círculo Fortuny launched last year in London and which will continue in the coming years in other priority countries for the association and its 85 members. The aim is to consolidate meeting points between the Spanish luxury sector and leading local ecosystems, strengthening the international presence of Spanish luxury in markets with close cultural ties and a growing interest in Spanish excellence, creativity and lifestyle.
The event also had a particularly significant gastronomic dimension. As part of the International Plan for Spanish Gastronomy, promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Círculo Fortuny has helped to raise the profile in Mexico of a selection of outstanding Spanish products, in line with one of the plan’s objectives, highlighting the quality, diversity and international reach of Spanish gastronomy.
Attendees were able to experience first-hand the extra virgin olive oil from Castillo de Canena, as well as wines from Marqués de Griñón, Marqués de Murrieta, Viñedos y Bodegas Sierra Cantabria, Abadía Retuerta and Belondrade. The event’s culinary offering was provided by the Zeru restaurant, which has been awarded the ‘Restaurants from Spain’ seal, reinforcing the authenticity and representativeness of the Spanish gastronomic experience.
The choice of Mexico is driven by economic, cultural and strategic considerations. Beyond the historical ties between the two countries, the tourism link between Spain and Mexico is currently experiencing a particularly dynamic phase. According to data from Turespaña, in 2024 Mexico exceeded one million tourists to Spain for the first time, with 1,080,318 travellers, making it one of the main non-European source markets for our country.
In 2024, Spain welcomed more than 1.08 million Mexican tourists, 9.7% more than the previous year, whilst spending by these travellers grew by 44%, reaching €2.94 billion, according to data from Turespaña. These figures reflect the growing interest among the Mexican public in experiences linked to gastronomy, culture and high-end tourism in Spain. At the same time, Mexico has set itself the target of increasing the number of Spanish tourists by 15% by 2026.
According to Xandra Falcó, president of Círculo Fortuny, “Spain has a very unique way of understanding excellence, deeply linked to emotion, the senses, lifestyle, hospitality, cuisine, the landscape and the way of life. And that is precisely why we feel such a natural affinity with Mexico. It is a country with extraordinary cultural richness, with a unique sensitivity towards craftsmanship, creativity, gastronomy and the emotional value of traditions and trades. Events like this remind us precisely that when we share all these values between countries, we build something much greater than ourselves”.
