We bid farewell to the San Isidro Fair and welcome the World Cup… but the venue remains the same, as we return to Casa Toro, this time to support La Roja.
This traditional tavern with a southern soul will be showing the Spanish national team’s matches – provided they are between 1 pm and 11 pm – on its giant screen. And there’s nothing like enjoying them with a perfectly poured, ice-cold Águila beer, accompanied by some delicious patatas bravas, also very red, made especially for the occasion.
You’ll also be able to watch other major matches involving different national teams on their screen. The only requirement is a group of at least eight people, and you must call to book in advance to secure a table in front of the TV. Whichever team we’re supporting, the experience at Casa Toro (Julio Camba, 5, Madrid. Tel. 676 74 52 93) is rounded off with some of their must-try dishes, and although everything looks tempting, you simply must order their Russian salad with garlic prawns; the ‘Campeones de Madrid’ pork crackling, the spiced tomato and the scrambled eggs with oxtail breadcrumbs, perfect portions for sharing. What’s more, this tavern enjoys a prime location, right opposite the Las Ventas metro station.
