THE SOLAR ECLIPSE ON 12 AUGUST FROM THE VINEYARD: BODEGAS PROTOS’ NEW WINE TOURISM EXPERIENCE

Eclipse solar del 12 de agosto desde el viñedo: la nueva experiencia enoturística de Bodegas Protos
  • The winery has organised a special tour to mark the eclipse, which includes a tour of its historic cellars and the new Richard Rogers-designed winery, a tasting of four wines, an ‘Eclipse Menu’ at Protos’ Ágora restaurant, and the chance to observe the astronomical phenomenon from the vineyard – a unique setting where special viewing glasses will be provided.

To mark the solar eclipse on 12 August, Bodegas Protos has created an exclusive wine tourism experience that will allow participants to enjoy this astronomical phenomenon from a privileged location in the heart of the Ribera del Duero. The programme combines heritage, architecture, wine and gastronomy in a day designed to turn an exceptional event into an unforgettable experience.

The visit will begin with a tour of Protos’ historic ageing cellar, which stretches for 2 kilometres through underground galleries excavated beneath the mountain on which Peñafiel Castle stands. This unique space, where the wines rest during the ageing process, is one of the most iconic sites in the winery’s history.

Next, visitors will enter the new winery designed by the renowned architect Richard Rogers, a building that has become one of the architectural icons of the Ribera del Duero. During the tour, they will discover every stage of the winemaking process, from the reception of the grapes to ageing in barrels and bottles.

The experience will continue with a guided tasting of four wines representative of the winery: Aire de Protos, Protos 9 Meses, Protos 27 and Carroa – a selection that will showcase the diversity and character of the wines produced by the winery.

Following the tour, guests will enjoy the Eclipse Menu, a culinary creation designed by the winery’s restaurant, Ágora de Protos, to round off the day before the most eagerly awaited moment: viewing the solar eclipse, between 7.30 pm and 8.30 pm.

The vineyard will take centre stage and provide the perfect setting for viewing this astronomical phenomenon, where the vines outline the horizon and the landscape opens up as a natural backdrop. The event will include certified eclipse glasses so that guests can view the eclipse in complete safety and enjoy a unique experience amongst the vines.
