AN AUTUMN TO ENJOY IN THE AOSTA VALLEY

Un otoño para disfrutar en el Valle de Aosta
  • Outdoor experiences amongst the most majestic peaks of the Alps.

Autumn in the Aosta Valley draws on the energy of summer and is reflected in the colours, scents and flavours that characterise the season, inviting you to enjoy an authentic experience, rich in traditions and culinary delights.

Flavours and traditions

It is the season of the grape harvest, the production of mountain wines, and the gathering of apples and chestnuts, but also of traditional Alpine delicacies such as Arnad bacon and Fontina cheese from alpine pastures.

Furthermore, autumn comes alive with a packed calendar of events, including:

  • The evocative ‘Désarpa’, the traditional return of the herds from the high-mountain alpine pastures, which celebrates the deep bond between mountain work and local communities.
  • The grape festivals in Chambave and Donnas, which pay tribute to the Aosta Valley’s winemaking tradition.
  • The famous Marché au Fort in Bard, one of the most important events dedicated to Alpine food and wine specialities.
  • The apple festivals in Antey and Gressan, celebrating one of the region’s most iconic agricultural products.
  • The Black Bread Festival, during which, on a single day in October, the ancient ovens of numerous villages in the Aosta Valley are rekindled to revive a centuries-old tradition.
  • The Honey Festival in Châtillon, dedicated to the valuable work of beekeepers and the products of the hive.
  • The finale of the ‘Bataille de Reines’ in Aosta, the event that brings the historic cow-fighting competition – which captivates the whole of the Aosta Valley – to a close.

This sensory journey is enriched by the scents of aromatic and medicinal herbs, the cornerstones of a culture that continues to be preserved and cherished at the Maison des Anciens Remèdes in Jovençan.

Nature, foliage and wellbeing

The mild climate makes this time of year ideal for exploring the region in the great outdoors.

Numerous excursions offer the chance to admire forests and hillsides bathed in spectacular hues. Among the season’s most captivating experiences is the ‘foliage’, which allows you to immerse yourself in the extraordinary autumnal colours of the leaves: shades of gold, red and amber turn every walk into an opportunity to marvel.

For a revitalising break, spas and wellness centres offer moments of genuine relaxation and rejuvenation.
