- Maxus is once again turning the spotlight on the pick-up that set a milestone in Europe by becoming the first model in its class to be fully electric and feature all-wheel drive as standard on the continent: the eTerron 9.
Its combination of performance, load capacity, range and technology makes it a contender to be reckoned with in a segment that is increasingly incorporating electrified models.
Measuring 5.50 metres in length, the eTerron 9 boasts a robust and powerful appearance, defined by a combination of geometric shapes. Its load area offers a capacity of up to 620 kilos, complemented by a 236-litre front storage space located under the bonnet. Furthermore, it can tow up to 3.5 tonnes, reinforcing its utility as a work vehicle.
The powertrain consists of two permanent magnet synchronous electric motors. The front motor delivers 125 kW (170 CV) and the rear motor 200 kW (272 CV), resulting in a combined power output of 325 kW, equivalent to 442 CV. As well as rapid acceleration, this combination also provides the aforementioned all-wheel drive, which ensures optimum grip on all types of terrain.
The energy required to power the eTerron 9 is supplied by a 102 kWh high-voltage battery, which can be charged from 20 to 80 per cent in around 40 minutes at up to 115 kW at fast-charging stations. The lithium iron phosphate battery has been designed using the specially developed ‘Tetris’ construction method within a protective frame comprising nine cells, which distributes forces horizontally and vertically, minimising space requirements whilst increasing both capacity and safety. Furthermore, the nine-channel ventilation system maintains the battery at an optimum temperature and, together with energy recovery, improves winter range by 10 per cent compared with conventional electric vehicles. The certified range reaches 430 kilometres in the combined cycle and 580 kilometres in the urban cycle, both according to the WLTP protocol.
In terms of driving dynamics, the eTerron 9 incorporates features more commonly found in saloon cars than in pick-ups, such as a multi-link rear suspension with air suspension that adjusts the vehicle’s height according to speed and improves comfort and aerodynamic efficiency. Easy Load mode also allows the load floor to be lowered by 60 millimetres to facilitate loading and unloading. All this is combined with a semi-monocoque body and a structure comprising 73 per cent high-strength steel.
The model comes with a comprehensive range of standard equipment, including numerous comfort, safety and driver-assistance features. Also noteworthy in this regard is the lighting system, featuring full-LED headlights capable of illuminating a distance of over 400 metres. In terms of safety, it has been awarded a five-star rating by Euro NCAP, scoring 91 points for adult occupant protection and 84 for pedestrian protection.
Priced at €47,871*, the eTerron 9 combines performance, load capacity, range and a high level of equipment in a single vehicle, making it a particularly comprehensive option within the pick-up market in general and the electric pick-up market in particular.
