BRUMA SETS SAIL WITH ITS FIRST ISSUE – LETTER FROM THE BRUMA I

Bruma zarpa con su primer número - Carta desde la Bruma I
  • A new magazine has just been launched. Bruma views the world through the lens of the sea.

  • In this first issue, they present a selection of stories to help us continue discovering it.

I have always been fascinated by the fact that water has no fixed shape, yet is a substance capable of shaping the world. It can be an ocean or a bay, a river or a lake. Some seek it out to sail, others need to see it from a hotel window or to create from their home in Portlligat. And there are those who simply find peace walking along a seafront promenade.

There are also those who are drawn to the water by a regatta. Others by a restaurant or a nightclub. Some because they dream of disappearing to a remote beach where hardly anyone goes, losing track of time and becoming part of a postcard where everything remains, more or less, still.

Water, in any of its forms, almost always traces a line—of space and time—that can be a horizon or a boundary.

BRUMA wants to navigate precisely along those lines

We love sailing, travelling, striped T-shirts and grilled fish. But, above all, we love to get out and about. To set out in search of stories where they are born, follow their trail and bring them back to port to share them with those who, like us, know that around the sea there is always much more than just water.

Because a superyacht can be an extraordinary feat of engineering and, at the same time, a story of desire and aspiration. A small hotel overlooking the Mediterranean can explain a region better than many travel guides. A marina can become the heart of a community. A sailing voyage can be an adventure, but also a different way of understanding time – the greatest luxury of our age and, probably, of all ages.

Water – and the sea in particular – has the rare ability to connect worlds that, on paper, seem separate. That is why these pages bring together destinations, hotels, boats, architecture, gastronomy, innovation, sustainability, culture and people. The sea blends ingredients, cultures and languages, and on the coast, borders have always been more blurred than on the mainland. Ports were never merely places where ships moored; they were also incubators of ideas, languages, goods and different ways of life.

We would like BRUMA to resemble those ports a little

May those who arrive looking for a large yacht discover a small hotel they’ll want to return to. May those who open the magazine to look at a destination end up reading about the blue economy. May an architect find inspiration on a voyage and a sailor in the kitchen of a seaside restaurant. Because the best conversations almost never start by talking about what you expected.

And, of course, the name is no coincidence either.

We are BRUMA because mist does not hide the landscape; it simply forces you to look at it differently. It slows you down, softens the contours and awakens curiosity. It reminds us that not everything deserves to be revealed all at once, that there are nuances, that sometimes you need to look twice to understand something, and that some places retain their magic precisely because they demand that you get a little closer.

And because looking does not always mean seeing. We, on the other hand, want to see. To see the world through the water so that we can tell its story here.

May this magazine inspire you to travel, to sail, to discover and also to pause. May it spark new questions rather than offer answers, and remind you that the sea is not just a place, but a way of inhabiting the world.

Welcome to BRUMA. We’re ready to set sail.
