Fundación Casa de México en España is joining the programme for the 18th edition of the Festival Eñe, which this year focuses on poetry and the centenary of the Generation of ’27 as the main themes of its programme. From 4 to 25 November in Madrid, and subsequently in Málaga, the festival will bring together some of the most prominent voices in contemporary literature in an edition that champions poetry as a tool for dialogue, reflection and collective imagination.
The programme will pay special attention to the legacy of the Generation of ’27, with initiatives such as ‘27 hours with the ’27’, an event that will bring together more than sixty creators to reflect on the enduring relevance of one of the most influential cultural movements in Spanish-language literature. The festival will also feature national and international authors, with Poland as the guest country, reinforcing its mission to foster encounters between different cultural and literary traditions.
In this context, the collaboration between Festival Eñe and the Casa de México Foundation in Spain reaffirms both institutions’ commitment to promoting Spanish-language literature and strengthening Ibero-American cultural dialogue.
As part of this partnership, Casa de México will host a conversation on 16 November with the Mexican writer Élmer Mendoza, one of the leading voices in contemporary Mexican literature and an international figure in the Spanish-language crime novel. The author’s presence helps to enrich the Latin American perspective within the festival’s programme and highlights the vitality and diversity of Mexican literature on the current literary scene.
Renowned for his extensive literary career and for bringing the realities and linguistic nuances of northern Mexico to readers around the world, Élmer Mendoza has established himself as one of the most significant figures in contemporary Spanish-American fiction. His participation in the Festival Eñe represents an opportunity to introduce the Spanish public to one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Mexican literature.
Through this collaboration, the Casa de México Foundation in Spain continues to foster spaces for creativity, thought and literature, strengthening cultural ties between Mexico and Spain and contributing to the promotion of literary talent on both sides of the Atlantic.
The venues for this edition are: Círculo de Bellas Artes, Instituto Cervantes, Real Academia Española, Museo Nacional del Prado, TBA, Teatro de La Abadía, Ateneo de Madrid, Fundación Casa de México en España, Contemporánea Conde Duque, Casa de América, Fundación Ortega Marañon, Residencia de Estudiantes, Infinito Delicias, Joaquín Leguina Library, Replika Teatro, Club Matador, Centro Generación del 27, La Térmica.

lower-case eñe
Bringing literature to younger audiences and families will be another of the objectives of this year’s festival. In collaboration with the Multiópticas Foundation and the Ministry of Youth and Children, eñe minúscula will run a programme aimed at children and families, combining literature, creativity and participation in an initiative curated by the writer and storyteller Ana Cristina Herreros. This programme, in keeping with the festival’s main theme, explores the literary avant-garde movements of the early 20th century, inviting the public to experiment and play with language, literature, and the plastic and visual arts.
Furthermore, during the festival, the winner of the children’s competition *Con la mirada de…* (Through the Eyes of…), organised by Festival Eñe and the Multiópticas Foundation to encourage creativity and literary expression amongst young children, will be announced.
The Eñe Festival is one of the leading events dedicated to literature and contemporary creation in Spanish. Held since 2009, it brings together writers, publishers, critics and readers every year through a programme that includes talks, workshops, readings, meetings and interdisciplinary activities linking literature with other artistic and cultural expressions.
Based mainly in Madrid and Málaga, the festival has established itself as a space for dialogue, reflection and the celebration of Spanish-language literature, whilst also promoting international exchange through the participation of authors from different countries and the annual inclusion of a guest country.
