  • Portugal will participate as the guest country with a wide representation from the Vinhos Verdes Demarcated Region.

  • The eleventh edition of the fair reinforces its role as the leading event for the promotion of quality wine in Mexico.

Next week, Mexico City will host a new edition of the Salón Selección Peñín, the country’s largest event dedicated to quality wine, which celebrates its eleventh edition with over 250 wines presented by 54 wineries. An unmissable event for industry professionals, who will be able to discover the rich wine heritage of Spain and Mexico through different regions, grape varieties and winemaking styles, alongside a prominent Portuguese contingent from the Vinhos Verdes Designation of Origin.

At this year’s event, Spanish wine will also feature a significant presence from the Jumilla DO and the Vinos de Madrid DO, which will participate with their own dedicated spaces to showcase the diversity and character of their wines. Alongside them, 31 Spanish wineries will present some of their most representative wines and new vintages. The exhibition will also feature a dedicated area for Mexican wines, where 13 wineries will showcase 94 wines.

New for this year, Portugal will participate as the guest country, represented by the Vinhos Verdes Demarcated Region, internationally renowned for the quality and freshness of its white wines. In this area of the showroom, Portuguese producers will offer a selection of over 80 wines from 10 wineries: Adega Ponte de Lima, Aveleda, Barcos Wines, Calçada Wines, Quintas das Arcas, Quinta do Côtto, Quinta do Tamariz, Quintas do Homem, Três Rostos and Vercoope.

As is now customary, the Fair will be complemented by a programme of educational tastings. The Jumilla D.O. will open the series with Sandra Fernández Gaytán, sommelier, consultant and columnist, who will lead the tasting “D.O.P. Jumilla. Monastrell from the Mediterranean highlands”, featuring a selection of some of the most representative wines made from this variety.

Next, Portugal and Claudia Juárez, Ambassador for the Vinhos Verdes Demarcated Region in Mexico, will host the tasting “Vinhos Verdes: From natural freshness to premium elegance”, dedicated to showcasing the diversity and uniqueness of the wines produced in this region from indigenous grape varieties.

The programme will conclude with the tasting “Wines of Madrid, Designation of Origin”, led by the President of the Vinos de Madrid Designation of Origin, Francisco José García Paredes.

The 11th Salón Selección Mexico City will take place on 26 May, running continuously from 2 pm to 8 pm, at the Hacienda de los Morales (Juan Vázquez de Mella, 525). The event is aimed exclusively at industry professionals —distributors, restaurants, hotels, specialist shops and supermarkets— as well as the press and influencers.
