RAAYA by Atmosphere is proud to announce that it has received an award at the 2026 International Sustainability Awards, in recognition of the resort’s commitment to responsible hospitality and environmental management.
Currently, approximately 600 kg of organic waste is turned into compost every month, with no food waste leaving the island. This has reduced the need to transport and dispose of waste off the island, resulting in savings of approximately 2,400 USD per month, whilst also reducing the emissions associated with waste transport. Most of RAAYA by Atmosphere’s waste is now sorted and managed in-house, and a waste transfer vessel is required only once every two months to transport recyclable materials. Commenting on this achievement, Mr Mario Stanic, Managing Director of RAAYA by Atmosphere, said: “It is a true honour for us to receive this recognition at the 2026 International Sustainability Awards. The initiative forms part of a wider commitment to sustainability across all of RAAYA’s operations. The resort’s solar energy production rose from 382,856 kWh in 2024 to 1,541,286 kWh in 2025. Solar energy now accounts for 21 per cent of the island’s total energy requirements, compared with 8 per cent the previous year. The resulting reduction in carbon emissions almost doubled, rising from 541 tonnes to 1,097 tonnes.
As a Green Globe-certified resort, RAAYA by Atmosphere continues to make progress in this area through responsible waste management and resource conservation. Future plans include the installation of a glass crusher to reuse glass waste in construction and a green waste crusher to strengthen the island’s circular waste management system.
