The 2025 tourism report has revealed excellent figures for the Huelva municipality of Aroche, which has once again broken a historical record with 7,700 more visits than in the previous year. With this, the town reaffirms its status as a tourist benchmark in the province, gaining followers year after year.
A total of 37,385 people have visited the various monuments offered by the Tourist Office, including the Roman city of Arucci Turobriga, the Rosary Museum, the Almohad Castle, the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption and, since September 2024, the Municipal Archaeological Collection, which has been a major boost to the increase in visits in 2025. The Tower of San Ginés, with special guided tours, has also been well received this past year. Of all of them, the archaeological site of Arucci Turobriga has been the most visited, with a total of 7,726 travellers. The Roman City is followed, in terms of visitor numbers, by the Castle and the Convent of La Cilla, which houses the Rosary Museum and other travelling exhibitions.
The Tourist Office also encourages visitors by offering guided tours of the municipality, as well as a variety of information on trails, gastronomy, etc.
March to May have been the most popular months for tourists to visit Aroche, with the highest levels of activity recorded both at the Tourist Office and at Aroche’s heritage sites. So much so that in May alone, Arucci Turobriga recorded more than 1,100 visits.
With regard to the type of visitors, the majority come from groups such as associations, students or groups of friends, among others, mostly from the provinces of Huelva, Seville, Cadiz and Cordoba. Although most travellers come from Spain, many have visited the municipality from Portugal, France, Belgium and Latin America, and even Chicago.
New Horizons
The mayor of Aroche, Cristina Romero Sancha, has welcomed these figures, emphasising that ‘they are figures that invite optimism, but also responsibility’. In this regard, she pointed out that ‘although the results are good, we cannot relax; the challenge now is to continue growing with a view to the future, improving the quality of the tourist experience and expanding our heritage offering.’ So much so that, in a short space of time, they hope to be able to include the old mill in the tour route after its restoration.
We are clear that an increase in tourism is not just a number; the town’s economy is boosted, businesses are more lively and the streets are filled with joy among residents and visitors,’ says the mayor, who is committed to ‘sustainable tourism, where the quality of the guides’ explanations, the completion of restoration and maintenance work, as well as research, are key to offering excellence’.
