The Motocross World Championship, the National Chocolate Festival and Bariloche a la Carta reinforce Argentina’s position as a leading destination for nature, sport and gastronomy in Patagonia, with FITUR 2026 as its main international showcase.
Far from relying solely on its scenic appeal, Bariloche has built a tourism strategy based on a solid events calendar, a distinctive gastronomic offering and a growing presence in international sports tourism. This combination allows it to attract travellers throughout the year and strengthen its presence in international markets.
Located in the heart of Andean Patagonia, within Nahuel Huapi National Park, the city combines lakes, forests, mountains and steppes in a natural environment that offers a wide variety of experiences depending on the season. This rich landscape, together with an infrastructure equipped to host major events, has established Bariloche as one of Argentina’s most important active tourism destinations.
Declared the National Capital of Adventure Tourism, the destination offers outdoor activities throughout the year, from trekking, kayaking, rafting and mountain biking to winter sports at Cerro Catedral, the largest ski resort in South America. This natural setting has allowed the destination to make a qualitative leap in its international projection with the celebration of top-level competitions.
In 2026, Bariloche will once again host global events such as the Motocross World Championship, to be held on 7 and 8 March, the only date on the calendar in the Americas, and the UTMB® World Series.
Gastronomy is another of the main attractions of its tourist offering. The local cuisine blends European heritage with high-quality products such as Patagonian lamb, lake fish, smoked meats, cheeses and forest fruits.
Events such as Bariloche a la Carta, which will take place in October, showcase this culinary identity, reinforced by the role of chocolate as one of the city’s most recognisable symbols. During the National Chocolate Festival, held every Easter, the city centre is transformed with family activities and iconic events such as the making of the world’s longest chocolate bar on the main street.
The annual calendar is rounded off with celebrations linked to local identity, such as the National Snow Festival, and with events that reinforce the city’s lively character throughout the year. All of this is part of a strategy promoted by EMPROTUR Bariloche, aimed at positioning the destination as an innovative, sustainable and competitive city.
With this combination of nature, events, gastronomy and identity, Bariloche arrives at FITUR 2026 reaffirming its moment of growth and international consolidation, and positioning itself as one of the most attractive nature destinations on the American continent.
