BUENOS AIRES CONSOLIDATES ITS LEADERSHIP AS AN INTERNATIONAL CAPITAL FOR GASTRONOMY, LARGE-SCALE EVENTS AND MEETINGS TOURISM AT FITUR 2026

  • During the fair, the city conveyed to the sector and the specialised media the strength of its tourism offering, the main new developments and the strategic lines that reinforce its international profile as a versatile and competitive destination.

Buenos Aires participated for the second consecutive year with its own stand at FITUR, consolidating its commitment to the international market and reinforcing a tourism strategy based on continuity and long-term positioning.

This sustained presence reflects the city’s current momentum and its desire to continue establishing itself as one of Latin America’s major tourist capitals among industry professionals and the specialised press.

In this context, the destination focused on the pillars that are sustaining this leadership and marking its evolution as a proposal capable of integrating leisure tourism and high-value professional tourism, with a special emphasis on meetings tourism, sport and gastronomy.

One of the fundamental pillars is business tourism. For more than a decade, the Argentine capital has remained one of Latin America’s leading venues for conferences and conventions, with a prominent position in international rankings for the MICE sector. This strength is supported by solid infrastructure, extensive hotel capacity, strategic air connectivity and an agenda that combines business, culture and leisure, placing the destination among the most competitive on the international scene.

Added to this is a packed schedule of major events, which reinforces the appeal for both business visitors and leisure travellers. Major international sporting competitions, top-level concerts and cultural festivals are part of a calendar that brings global visibility to the destination and consolidates its capacity to host large-scale events. This framework also includes the designation of Buenos Aires as the World Capital of Sport 2027, which endorses its track record as a host of major events and anticipates a calendar of high-impact tourism in the coming years.

Gastronomy completes this strategic triangle, with a diverse and constantly evolving culinary scene that places the city among the most interesting gastronomic capitals on the continent. Its international reputation is reflected in the presence of restaurants among the 50 best in Latin America and in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants ranking, as well as establishments recognised by the Michelin Guide and other global reference lists.

This positioning has been reinforced at FITUR by an active institutional presence throughout the fair, with various meetings and official events aimed at consolidating the destination’s reach. Within this framework, Jorge Macri, Mayor of the City of Buenos Aires, and Valentín Díaz Gilligan, President of Visit Buenos Aires and the City’s Tourism Board, among other authorities, participated in various professional events and meetings with the media, conveying the city’s tourism vision and the main initiatives that will shape its development in the coming years.

With all this, the destination is consolidating an increasingly diverse and specialised tourism offering, capable of responding to different traveller profiles. This evolution allows Buenos Aires to establish itself as a leading international tourist capital, with a solid offering for both leisure tourism and high-value business tourism.
