A photographic exhibition explores the history, heritage and collective involvement of Oña.
Anyone strolling through the streets of Oña this summer will be able to discover a photographic exhibition dedicated to the Cronicón de Oña, an initiative that brings the public closer to the history, heritage and collective effort that make one of Castile and León’s most iconic historical re-enactments possible.
Through a series of information panels installed in various locations around the town and at the Monastery of San Salvador, the exhibition offers an insight into both the historical events re-enacted by the Cronicón and the human effort behind each performance. The selected images capture some of the most significant scenes from the re-enactment and reflect the involvement of local residents, collaborators and volunteers who, year after year, help to keep this cultural tradition alive.
The exhibition also serves as an invitation to discover the historical and cultural heritage of Oña, as well as the power of historical re-enactment to bring the past to life in an accessible, participatory and exciting way.
This initiative has been organised by Oña Town Council as part of the ‘El Jardín Secreto’ project, which allows this exhibition to be integrated into the town’s urban and architectural landscape.
The El Cronicón Cultural Association of Oña also wishes to thank the Provincial Council of Burgos and the Regional Government of Castile and León for their support; these organisations, together with Oña Town Council, have made this exhibition possible.
The exhibition will remain open to the public over the coming weeks, inviting residents and visitors alike to explore the history of Oña through the images of a re-enactment which, for the past thirty-seven years, has formed part of the town’s cultural identity.
