- As part of the exhibition of the guest work *Elena Asíns. Antígona*, the Museo Picasso Málaga is presenting two concerts featuring a saxophone and a saxophone duo, designed as a direct dialogue with the artist’s conceptual and formal worlds.
- Saxophonists Elisa Urrestarazu and Fernando Laguna will perform alongside Asíns’ installation on two evenings, Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 April. The concerts will begin at 8 pm and will last one hour each.

Music occupies a central place in the work of Elena Asins, the artist featured in the temporary exhibition Elena Asins. Antígona, which the Museo Picasso Málaga is hosting until 3 May. The MPM has organised two experimental saxophone concerts to take place on Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 April alongside Asins’ spectacular installation, “Antígona” (2015). Each concert – featuring a solo saxophone and a saxophone duo – will last one hour and begin at 8 pm. On both evenings, featuring saxophonists Elisa Urrestarazu and Fernando Laguna, a direct dialogue will be established with the conceptual and formal worlds of Elena Asins, who created this sculptural installation using the name in Greek characters (Aντιγόνη), forming a large-scale composition in the intense black of Corten steel.
Saxophonist Elisa Urrestarazu will perform a programme including works by Scelsi, Jodlowski and Eneko Vadillo, exploring different registers and timbres through various instruments of the saxophone family. Urrestarazu will also round off the concert with improvisations based on electronics inspired by the Fibonacci sequence, performed alongside Fernando Laguna. Together, they will create an open sonic space with the aim of expanding and reinterpreting the concepts present in the exhibition. It is worth recalling that Antígona is an installation that takes the character from Sophocles’ tragedy and transforms her into a structure, a space. A word made flesh.
For this reason, the programme is structured around a sonic reflection on structure and language as formal construction, mathematics and seriality as processes of organisation and thought, and minimalism and repetition as an exploration of perception and time. All the while, it does not overlook the ethical dimension and tragic tension inherent in the figure of Antigone. Added to this is the idea of the voice and the word transformed into form, where sound becomes abstract discourse and a space of conceptual resonance.
