- To coincide with the current exhibition Picasso Memory and Desire, the Museo Picasso Málaga is organising two new engraving workshops aimed at adults, in which participants will be able to learn the most common engraving technique used by artists, chalcography, and create a unique graphic work.
- Those who register on 5 March will work with the drypoint technique, while those who register on 19 March will work with the etching technique.
- The registration fee for each workshop is €25, which can be paid online or at the museum ticket office. It includes the necessary materials and a visit to the exhibition.
Throughout his life, Pablo Picasso produced more than two thousand graphic works. Both the volume of his work and the variety of techniques he mastered make him one of the most prolific engravers in history. He made his first print at the age of eighteen and continued to engrave until the year before his death.
Picasso’s graphic work is very much in evidence at the Museo Picasso Málaga, which is why two new educational activities have been organised around this artistic technique, both aimed at adult audiences. On the one hand, there is the Intaglio Engraving Workshop: Drypoint on Thursday 5 March, in which participants will use the drypoint technique, a process in which the metal plate or matrix is carved directly with a sharp punch. On the other hand, in the Intaglio Engraving Workshop: Etching on Thursday 19 March, participants will work with the etching technique, a process in which the drawing is made on a metal plate covered with a protective varnish, which is then etched by the action of an acid. This process allows for highly precise and expressive lines.
Both workshops will begin with a visit to the Picasso Memory and Desire exhibition, followed by a visit to the workshop area where each participant will reproduce their print using the usual procedure of inking, cleaning and printing using an intaglio press. The result will be a unique and personal graphic work.
The two workshops will take place in person from 5pm to 8pm. The registration fee for each workshop is €25 and includes materials (metal plate for the etching workshop; varnishes, acids, inks, paper), as well as a visit to the temporary exhibition Picasso Memory and Desire. Registration is now open at the museum ticket office and on the website www.museopicassomalaga.org.
