- Industrial milestone: The Ford Kuga becomes the first car manufactured in Spain to be approved for hands-free driving on motorways and dual carriageways across Europe.
- Technology for everyone: Following its exclusive debut in the Mustang Mach-E, BlueCruise is being rolled out to the passenger car range with the new Kuga, Puma and Puma Gen-E, as well as to the Ranger PHEV in the commercial vehicle range.
- “BlueCruise Edition” special series: This new limited edition for the Kuga, Puma and Puma Gen-E includes the technology and connected navigation for life, eliminating monthly fees.
- 3Borderless journeys: The system is now operational on 90% of Spain’s motorway network (28,500 km) and across more than 133,000 km throughout Europe.
Ford continues to lead the way in innovation in Europe by expanding its revolutionary hands-free driving technology, Ford BlueCruise. After becoming the first system of its kind to be type-approved on the continent with its debut in the Mustang Mach-E, the brand is now taking a decisive step to extend this premium technology to its most popular models through the new BlueCruise Edition special series.
The star of this expansion is the new Ford Kuga. Manufactured at the Almussafes plant (Valencia), Ford’s family SUV is making history by officially becoming the first car produced in Spain to incorporate hands-free driving technology approved for our roads.
This industrial milestone reinforces the competitiveness of a key sector for the national economy. In 2025, Spain produced a total of 2,274,026 vehicles — of which 1,810,331 were passenger cars and the rest commercial vehicles — a figure that positions the country as the second-largest car manufacturer in Europe and the ninth-largest globally. This industrial leadership is essential for the automotive sector to continue accounting for 11% of Spain’s GDP and providing employment for over 2 million people.
Within these 2025 industrial results, the excellent performance of plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) stands out in particular, with production increasing by almost 30,000 units.
This launch consolidates Ford’s commitment to making the most advanced technology available to a greater number of drivers. What began as a feature exclusive to the Mustang Mach-E is now being extended to the brand’s most successful models. Thus, the Ford Kuga is available with BlueCruise technology from €31,800, the Ford Puma from €26,500 and the Ford Puma Gen-E from €29,900.
BlueCruise technology is the perfect companion for those who undertake long journeys for work or travel with their families, offering exceptional comfort that eliminates the stress of the journey and reduces fatigue, thereby significantly enhancing journey safety.
How does BlueCruise technology work?
Ford BlueCruise is a Level 2 (SAE) driver assistance system based on the ‘hands off the wheel, eyes on the road’ philosophy. When driving on authorised sections of motorways and dual carriageways (known as Blue Zones), the system takes control of steering, acceleration, braking and lane positioning up to the maximum speed limit on the road.
To ensure that the driver’s mind and eyes remain actively engaged in driving, an infrared camera facing the passenger compartment constantly monitors the driver’s gaze and head position:
- If the driver takes their eyes off the road or closes their eyes, the system issues visual and audible alerts.
- If no reaction is detected, the vehicle gradually and safely reduces speed until it comes to a complete stop.
- As soon as the driver takes the wheel again, the car reverts to conventional adaptive cruise control mode.
It is, therefore, the most advanced and safest system, as it monitors the driver at all times and ensures they are always attentive to the road.
Where can it be used? The ‘Blue Zones’
BlueCruise technology is only activated on sections of motorways and dual-carriageways that have a physical barrier (central reservation) separating the two directions of travel and which Ford has previously mapped in high definition using GPS technology. These areas are known as Blue Zones.
In Spain: The network already covers approximately 28,500 kilometres of approved roads, accounting for 90% of the national motorway and dual carriageway network. The vehicle’s digital instrument cluster changes to a blue animation the moment you enter one of these zones, indicating that you can now take your hands off the steering wheel.
In Europe: Coverage extends to over 133,000 kilometres across 16 countries, representing 94% of the European motorway network.
The future of driving, within reach of more drivers
In addition to the Kuga, Ford is extending the availability of BlueCruise to the new Puma and the all-electric Puma Gen-E (in versions with automatic transmission), as well as to the Ranger PHEV within its range of commercial vehicles.
The brand offers two ways to access this premium technology:
- BlueCruise Edition: Available on the Kuga, Puma and Puma Gen-E. Includes the system activated for life with no subscription required. It also adds premium finishes, such as a black roof, mirrors and wheels.
- Option BlueCruise Tech Pack: Available for the rest of the trim levels in the range. It offers a free 90-day trial. Once this has ended, the customer can activate the service via flexible subscriptions through the FordApp (monthly for €24.99 or annually for €280).
It should be noted, however, that the hardware and software pre-installation required for BlueCruise must be requested at the factory via the Tech Package, as it cannot be retrofitted to vehicles not originally equipped with it.
Exclusive design with its own identity
The BlueCruise Edition series not only incorporates revolutionary hands-free driving technology, but also offers a meticulously crafted aesthetic distinguished by a markedly exclusive and technological personality. For example, in the case of the Kuga, its exterior debuts the striking ‘Vapor Blue’ body colour — combined with a black roof and black-finished door mirrors — and black alloy wheels that enhance its presence on the road. The interior also offers a premium atmosphere, highlighted by the new upholstery, new decorative trim and side sill protectors exclusive to this version.
