Located in Tarragona and within the path of totality, this boutique hotel has everything in place to ensure an unforgettable experience, with a four-day programme combining guided stargazing, haute cuisine and biodynamic wine tourism in the heart of the Priorat.
This August, the sky will offer one of those landmark phenomena: a total solar eclipse that will cross the Iberian Peninsula from west to east on the afternoon of 12 August. Gran Hotel Mas d’en Bruno, part of The Stein Group, a luxury retreat with Relais & Châteaux status in the Priorat and situated within the path of totality of the eclipse, has everything ready for you to enjoy this moment in the best possible way, with its Luxury Eclipse & Stargazing Experience. This is a four-day sensory experience, from 10 to 14 August 2026, combining astronomy, gastronomy and wine culture.
In the heart of the Priorat region—amidst vineyards, steep slopes and stone villages—the hotel and its surroundings offer the perfect setting to witness the eclipse, thanks to low light pollution, combined with the typical clarity of a Mediterranean summer and the vastness of the horizon.
An immersive programme beneath the cosmos
Designed for a very limited number of guests, the experience goes far beyond simply “gazing at the sky”: it invites you to savour the moment as a celebration that brings together science, the local landscape and well-being. The programme begins on Monday 10 August with a leisurely arrival to enjoy the hotel and its facilities — from electric bikes and the electric Mini to the poolside cabanas and the spa.
The day culminates with a welcome cocktail and an al fresco dinner beneath the first stars of the Priorat, offering a foretaste of what is to come.
Tuesday 11 August, the eve of the eclipse, is dedicated to understanding the rhythms of the cosmos and their reflection on Earth. Participants will explore biodynamic viticulture at Perinet, one of the region’s most renowned wineries, to discover how the lunar calendar guides the harvest and fermentation, and take part in a guided tasting of biodynamic wines with views of the Montsant mountains. In the afternoon, a masterclass explores the history, symbolism and stories associated with solar eclipses. The day concludes with a reception featuring a cava cocktail and an ‘astro-gastronomic’ gala dinner, designed as a cosmic journey for the palate.
The Grand Show: 12 August 2026
Wednesday 12 August marks the highlight of the event. The morning begins with breakfast at the hotel and continues with a rice cooking demonstration by chef Josep Queralt. From 5.00 pm, guests will head to a selected viewing point in the Prades Mountains Astronomical Park, a member of the Starlight Foundation and considered one of Spain’s premier stargazing locations. Equipped with special protective glasses, they will watch the total solar eclipse live: the moment when the Moon completely covers the Sun and day turns to twilight. The experience is rounded off with a gourmet dinner on site, prepared by a restaurant with two Michelin stars.
Art, history and stars
On Thursday 13 August, the itinerary focuses on the cultural heritage of the Priorat. A private guided tour of Escaladei Monastery —whose name refers to the ‘Stairway to God’— offers an insight into the region’s history. The day also includes a virtual reality experience and a wine tasting at the area’s oldest winery, followed by a lunch featuring local cuisine. In the evening, the spotlight returns to the night sky with a more in-depth observation session: a masterclass on astrology and the zodiac, followed by an expert-led stargazing session from the nearby observatory, rounded off with a barbecue dinner by the pool under a starry sky.
On Friday 14 August, the programme concludes with a final brunch, bringing to a close a few days in which nature, comfort and knowledge intertwine in one of the most unique landscapes in Spain.
