GRAN HOTEL MAS D’EN BRUNO OFFERS A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO WITNESS THE TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE IN THE PRIORAT REGION IN UNBEATABLE CONDITIONS

Gran Hotel Mas D’en Bruno propone una experiencia única para contemplar el eclipse solar total
  • This boutique hotel, situated in Tarragona in a prime location within the path of totality of the eclipse, has designed an exclusive four-day programme combining stargazing, haute cuisine and biodynamic wine tourism.

This coming August, the skies over Spain are set for a spectacle that won’t be repeated for decades: a total solar eclipse that will cross the Peninsula from west to east. For this special event, Gran Hotel Mas d’en Bruno, part of The Stein Group—a luxury retreat in the Priorat with Relais & Châteaux status—has devised an experience worthy of the occasion: the Luxury Eclipse & Stargazing Experience, a four-day sensory journey taking place from 10 to 14 August 2026.

Situated in the heart of the Priorat, a land of vineyards and rugged landscapes, the hotel occupies a privileged position within the path of totality of the eclipse. The clarity of its atmosphere, free from light pollution, and the high likelihood of clear horizons and cloudless skies typical of the Mediterranean summer, make this enclave an unbeatable natural observatory from which to witness the moment when day turns to night.

An immersive programme beneath the cosmos

The experience, designed for a very small group of guests, goes beyond mere astronomical observation to become a celebration of this type of astronomical phenomenon, all set against the backdrop of local culture. The programme will begin on Monday 10 August with a relaxed arrival at the resort, where guests can enjoy the hotel’s facilities, such as its electric bikes, the electric Mini at their disposal, or the poolside cabanas and spa. This opening day will culminate in an elegant welcome cocktail and a dinner under the stars, with the first light of the Priorat sky serving as a foretaste of what is to come.

Tuesday 11 August, the day before the eclipse, will be dedicated to understanding the rhythms of the universe and their influence on Earth. Attendees will delve into the fascinating world of biodynamic viticulture at Perinet, one of the region’s most prestigious wineries. There, they will learn how the lunar calendar guides the harvesting and fermentation processes, and take part in a masterclass tasting of biodynamic wines with views of the majestic Montsant mountains. The afternoon will continue with an enriching masterclass on the history, symbolism and legends that civilisations have woven around solar eclipses. The day will be rounded off with a reception featuring a cava cocktail and an astro-gastronomic gala dinner, a true cosmic journey for the palate.

The big event: 12 August 2026

On Wednesday 12 August, the most eagerly awaited day, the morning will begin with breakfast at the hotel, followed by a rice cooking demonstration led by chef Josep Queralt, before guests make their way at around 5.00 pm to a prime viewing spot in the Prades Mountains Astronomical Park, a member of the Starlight Foundation. Prades is one of Spain’s finest astronomical sites, where guests will enjoy an exclusive programme under the open sky to experience the eclipse from the best vantage point in Catalonia. There, equipped with specialised protective glasses, guests will witness the total solar eclipse live. A moment of unique beauty, in which the moon will completely obscure the sun, plunging the landscape into a magical twilight. The experience will continue with an on-site gourmet dinner prepared by a restaurant with 2 Michelin stars.

Art, history and stars

The programme will continue on Thursday 13 August with an immersion in the region’s rich cultural heritage. A private guided tour of the historic Monastery of Escaladei, whose name evokes a ‘Stairway to God’, will allow guests to discover the cradle of the Priorat. The experience is rounded off with an innovative virtual reality tour and a tasting at the area’s oldest winery, followed by a lunch featuring local cuisine. The final evening will be dedicated to in-depth stargazing, with a masterclass on astrology and the zodiac and a session led by an expert from the nearby observatory, all complemented by a barbecue dinner by the pool, beneath a blanket of stars.

The experience will conclude on Friday 14 August with a splendid farewell brunch, leaving guests with an indelible memory of a few days in which nature, luxury and knowledge came together in one of the most beautiful settings in Spain.
