- The grape harvest marks one of the most special times of the year at Hacienda Zorita.
- On 26 September, the Salamanca estate will host an event centred on wine, tradition and the local region.
- This celebration forms part of its commitment to local cuisine, with new events dedicated to the flavours and wines of Salamanca.
There are times of year that allow us to gain a deeper understanding of a region. For Hacienda Zorita Wine Hotel, the grape harvest is one such occasion. It is the moment when the vineyard ceases to be merely a landscape and becomes an experience: the grapes move from the earth into the hands of the harvesters, and a process begins that will culminate, much later, in a glass of wine.
This way of understanding wine ties in with Hacienda Zorita’s philosophy, where wine tourism seeks to go beyond simply tasting a bottle to bring visitors closer to the landscape, the people, the season and the stories behind each wine. Its vineyard and winery are, therefore, places from which to discover the region and the wine culture of Salamanca.
When the vineyard becomes an experience
In this context, the Grape Harvest Festival is one of the major celebrations on Hacienda Zorita’s calendar. The next edition will take place on Saturday 26 September 2026, on a day designed to experience the tradition up close and take part in it.
The celebration will begin at 11.30 am with a welcome and the handover of the grape-picking equipment, accompanied by a brass band. At 12 noon, the grape harvest will begin and, half an hour later, one of the most iconic moments will take place: the traditional grape treading, open to anyone who wishes to take part. The day will continue with a country-style snack at 1.00 pm, a barbecue at 2.00 pm, and music with a DJ and surprises from 4.30 pm until the event closes at 9.00 pm.
But the grape harvest doesn’t end in the vineyard. At Hacienda Zorita, wine forms part of a wider narrative in which produce, gastronomy and the local area come together around the table.
Flavours that tell the story of Salamanca
Gastronomy is another way in which Hacienda Zorita invites you to discover Salamanca. At Zorita’s Kitchen, locally sourced produce and cuisine rooted in the land form the basis of a culinary experience that seeks to reflect the character of the province.
Throughout September, the restaurant is hosting a series of gastronomic events dedicated to the flavours of Salamanca, taking place from 6 to 20 September to coincide with the city’s annual fairs and festivals.
The programme revives some of the most iconic dishes of Salamanca’s cuisine — such as chanfaina, patatas meneadas, free-range eggs with farinato, Morucha ribeye steak, marinated trout and Bollo Maimón torrija — reinterpreting them through the contemporary lens of Zorita’s Kitchen. The experience is rounded off with wines from Arribes and the Sierra de Salamanca, whilst also shining a spotlight on the province’s wine producers and projects.
Thus, the Grape Harvest Festival and the gastronomic events form part of a single narrative: discovering Salamanca through the produce of its land and the people who keep its gastronomic and wine-making culture alive.
A way of celebrating the region
More than just a one-off celebration, the grape harvest encapsulates a way of understanding Hacienda Zorita Wine Hotel: showcasing the region, its produce and its traditions, and transforming them into contemporary experiences.
Wine plays a central role in this approach. Hacienda Zorita is committed to locally sourced wines, small-scale producers and unique projects, viewing wine as a means of getting to know a region. Its wine cellar hosts tastings and experiences, whilst initiatives such as ‘La Mesa del Enólogo’ bring together gastronomy and wine through pairing menus.
The cuisine follows the same philosophy, with dishes based on seasonal and locally sourced produce to reflect the landscape and character of Salamanca.
The grape harvest is, therefore, much more than the beginning of a wine: it is a celebration of origin. An opportunity to connect with the land, get to know its produce, share a tradition and discover that behind every glass lies a landscape and a story.
With the Grape Harvest Festival on 26 September, Hacienda Zorita invites you to experience this process from the inside: from the vineyard to the wine press, from the wine press to the cellar and, finally, from the cellar to the table.
