- Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos and Miguel López-Remiro, artistic director of the Museo Picasso Málaga and curator of the exhibition Joana Vasconcelos. Transfiguration, will take part in a talk to be held on Wednesday 27 May at 7.30 pm in the central courtyard of the Palacio de Buenavista. Admission to the event is free, subject to availability.
- The event will serve as a prelude to the opening of this new temporary exhibition, which will be presented the following day and will open to the public on Friday 29 May. Vasconcelos is one of the most distinctive European artists on the contemporary scene.
To mark the exhibition Joana Vasconcelos. Transfiguration, the Museo Picasso Málaga welcomes the artist Joana Vasconcelos (Paris, 1971) on Wednesday 27 May at 7.30 pm for a discussion between the artist herself and Miguel López-Remiro, artistic director of the MPM and curator of the exhibition. The conversation between the artist and the curator serves as a prelude to an exhibition bringing together sculptures and installations created from the late 1990s to the present day, which will be open to the public from 29 May to 27 September.
The event will take place in the courtyard of the Palacio de Buenavista, home to the MPM, and will be open to the public with free admission until full capacity is reached. On that day, the public will be able to view one of the works featured in the exhibition: “Betty Boop (AP)” (2020), from the Berardo Collection, a glamorous, sensual piece that shimmers as if made of silver, yet is composed of stainless steel lids and saucepans. This work is part of a series developed by Vasconcelos since 2007, in which she reflects on the domestic condition of women, using kitchen utensils such as Silampos number 16 saucepans, typical of her country of origin, Portugal.
The conversation between Vasconcelos and López-Remiro will offer attendees some of the key insights emerging from this new temporary exhibition at the Museum, which in this way reinforces its commitment to international collaboration and unique contemporary art projects. In this case, the spotlight will be on a European artist with a proven global reach, Vasconcelos, renowned for her work with everyday objects, popular symbols and craft techniques applied to large-scale sculptures and installations.
Admission to the event is free until full capacity is reached, and access will be via the main entrance of the Museo Picasso Málaga, on Calle San Agustín.
