THE KREOL FESTIVAL 2026 IS COMING TO THE SEYCHELLES IN OCTOBER TO CELEBRATE THE ARCHIPELAGO’S CREOLE SPIRIT

El festival Kreol 2026 llega a Seychelles en octubre para celebrar el espíritu criollo del archipiélago
  • One of the most eagerly awaited moments of the year in the Seychelles is upon us. The archipelago is preparing to host the 41st edition of the Kreol Festival this October, the islands’ most iconic cultural celebration.

Held annually on the island of Mahé, as well as on Praslin and La Digue, this event has held the distinction of being the world’s first festival dedicated entirely to Creole heritage since its inception in 1985.

The Kreol Festival is a cultural event of the highest calibre in the archipelago: it is a living tribute to Seychellois identity, forged from the fusion of African, European and Asian roots. Every year, the capital, Victoria, and the surrounding communities are transformed into a vibrant stage, brimming with rhythm and flavour, where locals, members of the diaspora and international travellers come together to celebrate Creole language, culture and traditions.

Visitors attending the festival will enjoy an immersive experience lasting several days. The streets of Mahé are filled with colourful parades and community festivities, whilst the nights come alive with performances of traditional Creole music such as the kamtole and the hypnotic moutya, accompanied by bonfires. Traditional and contemporary dance also feature prominently, as does the cuisine, with local specialities such as sausage pilau, grilled fish with chilli, and octopus curry cooked in coconut milk.

The programme is rounded off with art exhibitions, craft markets, storytelling sessions, cultural workshops and fashion shows paying tribute to Creole heritage, as well as performances by artists and groups from the Seychelles and other Creole-speaking nations around the world.

This annual event offers an excellent opportunity to discover the Seychelles beyond its famous beaches and natural landscapes. The Kreol Festival offers travellers the chance to immerse themselves in the living history of a nation in full celebration, sample the islands’ authentic cuisine, listen to music passed down through the generations, and connect with a community that takes pride in its diverse heritage. Whether you’re visiting the archipelago for the first time or returning, the festival adds an unforgettable and culturally enriching element to any itinerary in the Seychelles.

For those wishing to experience this event in all its splendour, the hotels of the Seychelles Authentic Hotels Collection (SAHC), with properties on the islands of Mahé, Praslin, Silhouette and Denis, are an excellent choice. These establishments, deeply rooted in the local culture, reflect the authentic spirit of the islands and allow guests to enjoy a stay that is fully in tune with the essence of the Seychelles.
