LEONARDO HOTELS ANNOUNCES NEW OPENINGS IN SPAIN AND ITS ENTRY INTO PORTUGAL IN 2026

  • As part of its participation in FITUR, Leonardo Hotels announced the opening of three new hotels in the Iberian Peninsula throughout 2026, located in Valdebebas (Madrid), Torremolinos (Málaga) and Lisbon (Portugal), which will consolidate its position as one of the fastest and most dynamically growing hotel chains in Europe.

These additions reinforce the group’s expansion strategy in key locations, both urban and holiday destinations, while expanding the presence of its different brands in Spain and Portugal. With these openings, the company is advancing its goal of combining strategic locations, distinctive offerings and a firm commitment to quality and customer experience.

Strategic hotel assets in Madrid and the Costa del Sol

In Madrid, Leonardo Hotels will open a newly built hotel in Valdebebas, one of the most dynamic urban developments in the northern part of the capital. The opening is scheduled for next autumn. The 215-room establishment will be operated under the Leonardo Royal brand and will be positioned as premium accommodation aimed at both corporate and leisure customers. Its proximity to Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, the IFEMA Madrid exhibition centre and the Formula 1 street circuit reinforces Valdebebas as a new hub in the capital.

In the holiday sector, Leonardo Hotels will expand its presence on the Costa del Sol with the addition in April of a 398-room hotel in Torremolinos, which will become the group’s second establishment in the province of Málaga, where it already has a 184-room hotel in Fuengirola. This new asset will significantly strengthen the chain’s presence in one of Spain’s most established tourist destinations, renowned for its climate, connectivity and wide range of leisure activities. The project reinforces the group’s commitment to the holiday segment, complementing its urban portfolio with an offering tailored to families, couples and international travellers.

Colliers has been actively involved in the Valdebebas and Torremolinos transactions, advising Leonardo Hotels on both processes.

Entry into Portugal with an extraordinary hotel

Before the end of the year, Leonardo will make its long-awaited entry into Portugal with what will also be the first Limited Edition hotel on the Iberian Peninsula: the Hotel Corpus Christi Lisboa – Leonardo Limited Edition. This exclusive hotel, located in the heart of Lisbon, in the Baixa district, will have 132 rooms and a restaurant that aims to become a gastronomic reference point in the city. The establishment will open its doors after a careful and exhaustive renovation process, which will transform an old 18th-century monastery into a luxury hotel with all the contemporary comforts. True to the spirit of Leonardo Limited Edition, it will offer a unique experience that combines historical heritage, contemporary design and highly personalised service. Under the Limited Edition brand, Leonardo Hotels brings together unique and inspiring hotels, each with its own identity, rooted in the history and character of its destination. Among the highlights of this collection are The Dilly in London and The Nikolai Hotel in Hamburg, both magnificent examples of how Leonardo integrates iconic buildings with a distinctive hotel offering. The future Hotel Corpus Christi Lisboa – Leonardo Limited Edition will join this select portfolio, reinforcing the collection’s international profile in southern Europe.

The announcement of these new openings for 2026 comes after the celebration, in 2025, of the tenth anniversary of Leonardo Hotels in Spain. Over the last decade, the group has built up a portfolio of 19 hotels and nearly 3,000 rooms, consolidating its presence in the Spanish market.

At European level, Leonardo Hotels continues to grow steadily. In the last two years, the group has significantly expanded its portfolio through acquisitions and new openings, adding dozens of hotels in key markets such as the Netherlands, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Ireland and the United Kingdom. Since January 2024, the company has acquired 30 hotels for a total of nearly €740 million, with notable openings including NYX Hotel Rome, NYX Dublin, NYX Edinburgh, The Posthouse Berlin and Badischer Hof in Baden-Baden.

‘We are delighted to officially announce these new additions in Madrid, Malaga and Lisbon. With these openings, we will continue to strengthen the presence of the Leonardo Hotels brand family in Spain and take a strategic step forward with our entry into the Portuguese market,’ said Shay Raz, Managing Director of Leonardo Hotels in Spain and Portugal. ‘2026 will be an important year for the group, in which we will continue to focus on unique projects, exceptional locations and a value proposition for all customers that successfully combines local essence with our international quality standards.’
