The programme will feature tastings, traditional market culture, music and educational activities centred on iconic local products such as the homemade cured meats from Campo de San Juan, Bullas D.O. wine, Moratalla marzipan and lavender panettone.
Throughout June, Moratalla will host the Moratalla-Territorio Lavanda Gastronomic Days, an initiative designed to showcase the agricultural, cultural and tourist wealth of the municipality and the North-West region, funded by Next Generation EU grants as part of the North-West Region of Murcia’s Destination Sustainability Plan.
The project was launched with the aim of strengthening the region’s identity through gastronomy, generating new opportunities linked to rural tourism, and positioning the Lavender Territory and the north-western region as an emerging destination where landscape, culture and local produce come together in a single experience.
During the event, locals and visitors will be able to discover some of the area’s most representative flavours, including the homemade cured meats from Campo de San Juan, Bullas D.O. wine, Moratalla marzipan and lavender panettone – products that will feature in various tastings and activities designed to bring local cuisine to the public.
The programme will begin on Friday 12 June with the ‘Essences of Learning’ Educational and Gastronomic Workshop, an initiative aimed at the pre-school and primary school community of the CRA in El Sabinar, combining educational activities, sensory workshops and tastings. The day will include workshops on personalised scented sachets, young gardeners and a communal snack, as well as performances and cultural activities.
On Saturday 13 June, Moratalla will host the Traditional Huertano Parade, an event that will highlight the folklore, popular traditions and cuisine associated with the region. The event will feature a parade from La Glorieta, a floral offering, a Huertano mass, food, drink and food trucks, as well as musical performances throughout the afternoon. This event is designed as a key initiative to reinforce the municipality’s cultural and gastronomic identity.
The programme will conclude on Friday 26 June with “Rhythm and Fragrances in Campo de Béjar”, an experiential event combining music, landscape and gastronomy on the esplanade of Bar La Pava, in Campo de Béjar. From 9.00 pm, Marlene will give a concert in a setting linked to the flowering of aromatic plants and the imagery of the Lavender Region.
These events form part of a tourism revitalisation strategy that seeks to connect different areas of the municipality, such as El Sabinar, the historic centre of Moratalla and Campo de Béjar, through experiences that blend tradition, local produce and culture. The initiative aims to contribute to the revival of traditional recipes, promote iconic local products and create participatory activities capable of attracting visitors at different times of the year.
With this initiative, Moratalla reinforces its commitment to a model of sustainable, experiential tourism linked to the local area, in which gastronomy acts as a common thread to showcase the identity of north-western Murcia and encourage the involvement of producers, the hospitality sector, local businesses and the resident population.
The Moratalla-Territorio Lavanda Gastronomic Days thus invite visitors to discover the town through its aromas, flavours and traditions, consolidating an initiative that brings together heritage, landscape and local produce, centred on lavender as a hallmark of identity.
This is a project funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU – under the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan as part of the Sustainability Plan for the Northwest of the Region of Murcia.
