MSC CRUISES HAS COMPLETED THE INSTALLATION OF A SPECTACULAR DRAGON SCULPTURE ON ITS NEW FLAGSHIP, THE MSC WORLD ASIA

MSC CRUCEROS FINALIZA LA INSTALACIÓN DE UNA ESPECTACULAR ESCULTURA DE UN DRAGÓN DE SU NUEVO BUQUE INSIGNIA, MSC WORLD ASIA
  • The 12-metre sculpture has become one of the major visual icons of MSC Cruises’ new flagship, which is due to arrive in the Mediterranean in December.

The installation of the spectacular dragon sculpture on MSC Cruises’ new flagship, MSC World Asia, has now been completed, marking a key milestone as the ship approaches the moment when it will welcome its first passengers.

MSC World Asia, which is currently under construction at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, will begin operating in the Mediterranean on 4 December 2026, with Barcelona as its port of embarkation. MSC Cruises’ new flagship will offer seven-night itineraries to some of the Mediterranean’s most popular destinations, including Marseille, Genoa, Civitavecchia (Rome), Messina and Valletta.

Measuring 12 metres long and 3.5 metres wide, the spectacular stainless-steel sculpture rises 10 metres above the World Promenade, one of the ship’s most iconic open-air spaces, where passengers can enjoy sea views, dining options, entertainment and moments of relaxation. Beyond its visual impact, the dragon will become one of the most recognisable features of the MSC World Asia and a landmark within this iconic area of the ship.

Designed by Balich Wonder Studio, the international creative powerhouse behind some of the world’s largest live entertainment productions, the dragon sculpture is set to become one of the ship’s most recognisable visual landmarks. This striking centrepiece complements the subtle design elements of MSC World Asia, which reflect the rich culture, art and landscapes of Asia.

Crafted from stainless steel with a pearlescent white finish, the dragon sculpture features nearly 700 mirrors, 400 metres of integrated lighting strips and over 3,000 LED light points. Every detail has been designed to capture movement and reflection, creating the impression of a powerful figure soaring above the ship. As night falls, the sculpture lights up, bringing the dragon to life after dark and enhancing the vibrant atmosphere of the World Promenade.

Marco Balich, president of Balich Wonder Studio, said: “For the first time, an icon has become the defining symbol of a ship: a powerful expression of identity, created to inspire dreams and enrich every journey. The dragon brings together vision, craftsmanship and emotion, creating an experience that will remain in passengers’ memories long after their journey is over.”

MSC World Asia is the third ship in MSC Cruises’ innovative World Class series and a new showcase for the brand’s distinctive approach to cruising: it combines European design with international influences and offers a wide variety of international dining options, entertainment and experiences for the whole family.
