- Regenerative tourism is a model that goes beyond sustainable tourism by offsetting the carbon footprint of the trip and generating a real positive impact on the region.
- Navarre offers around fifteen regenerative tourism experiences spread throughout the region.
Navarre is strengthening its position as a destination fully committed to responsible and purposeful tourism through its commitment to regenerative tourism, a form of tourism that not only reduces the impact of tourist activity, but also actively contributes to improving the region, the local community and the natural environment.
This initiative is part of the global sustainable tourism strategy of Turismo de Navarra, Navarra Huella Positiva (Navarre Positive Footprint), which articulates a tourism model based on respect for the environment, the preservation of local identity and the generation of long-term social, economic and environmental benefits.
Regenerative tourism: travelling while leaving a positive footprint
Last year, Navarre launched a pioneering regenerative tourism project in Spain, inviting people travelling to the region to get directly involved in local actions that offset the carbon footprint of their trip and generate a real beneficial impact on the destinations they visit.
Regenerative tourism goes a step further than traditional sustainable tourism. It is not limited to minimising negative impacts, but proposes that each trip be an opportunity to restore ecosystems, recover heritage, strengthen rural communities and conserve biodiversity, establishing a more conscious and transformative relationship between visitor and territory.
Navarre offers around fifteen regenerative experiences
During the 2026 tourist season, Navarre will offer around fifteen regenerative tourism experiences, spread throughout the region and designed to reflect the landscape, cultural and social diversity of the region.
These proposals allow visitors to actively participate in initiatives such as:
- Restoration of traditional stone buildings (Bera)
Participation in the restoration of heritage elements using traditional techniques, contributing to the preservation of popular architecture.
- Charcoal kilns and olive groves: reviving an ancestral legacy (Ollogoyen)
Recovery of traditional agricultural practices linked to olive trees and the sustainable use of the land.
- Sensory route through the forest and the orchard (Arrarats)
A guided tour that connects visitors with local biodiversity through the senses.
- Butterfly trail (Muneta)
Creation and maintenance of a space dedicated to the protection of butterflies and pollinators.
- Connection and regeneration on a farm school (Ollo)
An educational experience that combines nature, learning and active participation.
- Community revitalisation in Abaurrea Alta

- Construction of nest boxes for birds of prey (Bardenas Reales – Cascante)
Protection of birdlife through the creation of bird shelters.
- Recovery of a wine-growing area (San Martín de Unx)
Revaluation of the wine-growing landscape and its cultural heritage.
- Regenerative experience with horses in Araitz (Intza)
Connection with the rural environment through the respectful care and handling of horses.
- Creation of an oasis for butterflies and birds in the Baztan Valley (Elizondo)
Creation of biodiverse spaces that favour local fauna.

All experiences foster a direct connection between visitors and the local population, promoting more conscious, authentic tourism that is aligned with the values of the territory.
A comprehensive sustainable tourism strategy
Regenerative tourism is part of a global sustainable tourism strategy promoted by the Directorate-General for Tourism of the Government of Navarre under the Navarra Huella Positiva (Navarre Positive Footprint) brand, which encompasses multiple complementary lines of action.
These include initiatives such as the reservas.visitnavarra.es platform, aimed at the balanced management of tourist flows; pioneering regulation of itinerant tourism; the awareness campaign ‘Navarra, tourism well understood’; the promotion of sustainable food and wine tourism under the concept ‘Manda la tierra’ (The land rules); aid programmes for local businesses and entities; and the Turismo Bikaina initiative, focused on tourism excellence through sustainability.
All these actions have the same objective: to ensure that tourism in Navarra generates a positive footprint, is respectful of the local population and contributes to preserving what makes the destination unique.
