No fatalities have been reported in the country; furthermore, the emergency response has been characterised by the solidarity of the population and the swift action of the authorities, who continue to work to assist the affected inland areas.

Meanwhile, Tocumen International Airport remains open and operational, working in coordination with airlines to facilitate the resumption of travel for passengers affected by temporary disruptions resulting from safety protocols. Likewise, the Panama Canal is operating as usual.

Most destinations are operating at full capacity

Beyond the capital, the majority of the country’s tourist destinations are operating as normal. In inland towns closest to the epicentre – such as Penonomé, Santiago, Tonosí, Torio and Venao – where some structures have sustained damage, repairs are already underway and communities are being supported in their recovery. The Tourism Authority will provide updates on developments and the resumption of tourism in these areas.

The country’s stringent building regulations and the supervision by the authorities strengthen its capacity to cope with such events. Maintaining and reinforcing these measures forms part of Panama’s ongoing commitment to building safety and the protection of people.
