“Fashion & Heritage in Motion” brings together, for the first time, the creative world of the Granada-born designer with historic pieces by some of the biggest names in international haute couture.
The Málaga Museum of Automobile and Fashion will open the exhibition “Fashion & Heritage in Motion” on 8 July, a project that offers a unique encounter between contemporary Spanish design and some of the most influential figures in the history of international fashion.
The exhibition, which will run until 30 August, brings together some thirty pieces from both Pilar Dalbat’s archive and the museum’s historical collections. The exhibition offers visitors the chance to delve into the creative world of the Granada-born designer and to compare it with original designs and haute couture pieces by great masters such as Fortuny, Balenciaga, Chanel, Dior, Galliano and Rabanne, amongst others.
The exhibition is supported by the Caja Rural Granada Foundation, an organisation committed to promoting cultural initiatives. On this occasion, it is strengthening its collaboration with Pilar Dalbat, in a venture where the foundation’s objectives and those of the brand itself intertwine, giving rise to a shared narrative centred on the promotion of heritage through its stories.
Far from being a conventional retrospective, ‘Fashion & Heritage in Motion’ offers an interpretation of fashion as living cultural heritage. The pieces establish connections that shed light on Pilar Dalbat’s creative process through concepts such as the value of time, Andalusian pride and the experience of space.
The exhibition forms part of one of the lines of research that have defined the brand’s trajectory since its inception: exploring new ways of creating and showcasing fashion. Over the years, Pilar Dalbat has spearheaded projects in which design engages in dialogue with architecture, landscape, memory and cultural identities, viewing heritage as a starting point for generating new narratives.
In this context, the Zambra SS26 collection, presented at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, serves as the central theme of a concept that connects past and present through a contemporary lens. The exhibition celebrates craftsmanship, the time devoted to creative processes, the excellence of traditional trades and fashion’s capacity to act as a vehicle for cultural transmission.
Through this initiative, Pilar Dalbat also reaffirms a vision of fashion deeply rooted in her region. Based in Granada yet with a strong international focus, the designer has built a career recognised for reinterpreting Andalusian and Mediterranean cultural references in a language of her own, capable of connecting with diverse audiences and contexts.
A must-see event for the summer in Málaga
Coinciding with the start of the summer season, ‘Fashion & Heritage in Motion’ stands out as one of the most appealing cultural events of the summer on the Costa del Sol. The opening ceremony will bring together representatives from the institutional, cultural and business sectors, alongside professionals from the fashion industry and specialist media, making the Málaga Museum of Automobile and Fashion one of the key cultural venues at the start of the summer.
The choice of the museum as the venue reflects the nature of the exhibition itself. Its permanent collection, which brings together motoring, haute couture, design and heritage, makes this space the ideal setting for an exhibition that links Pilar Dalbat’s work with some of the biggest names in international fashion and reinforces Málaga’s position as a leading cultural destination during the summer season.
‘Fashion & Heritage in Motion’ also offers an exceptional opportunity to view, in a single space, pieces spanning different generations and periods in the history of fashion, establishing new connections between some of its great masters and one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Spanish design.
The exhibition is organised in collaboration with the Caja Rural Granada Foundation, an organisation committed to promoting cultural initiatives that contribute to the dissemination of Andalusian heritage, creativity and talent.
