The Tourism and Society Think Tank and the Ministry of Tourism of El Salvador invited members of the media to participate in the official press conference presenting the International Congress on Religious Tourism – “Land of Living Faith” – El Salvador 2026 (July 8–10, 2026), a globally oriented event that will bring together leading stakeholders from the religious, institutional, academic, and tourism sectors.
The press conference was held on March 25, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in the VIP Room on Level 6 of the National Library of El Salvador (BINAES), located at Plaza Gerardo Barrios, 4 Calle Oriente, in the city of San Salvador. The event took place within this important cultural venue as the official presentation of the congress’s content, objectives, and scope. The congress itself will be held from July 8 to 10, 2026, at the same venue, consolidating its role as an international platform for the analysis and development of sustainable religious tourism.
The event featured the participation of Dr. Antonio Santos del Valle, President of the Tourism and Society Think Tank and Coordinator of the World Religious Tourism Network, as well as Morena Valdez Vigil, Minister of Tourism of El Salvador. They shared the strategic vision of the congress and the institutional commitment to promoting faith-based tourism as a driver of cultural, social, and economic development.
The International Congress on Religious Tourism – “Land of Living Faith” – El Salvador 2026 will bring together ecclesiastical leaders, public officials, researchers, tourism operators, community organizations, and specialized media with the aim of fostering dialogue and co-creating strategies to strengthen faith-related destinations. The event seeks to position itself as an international benchmark in the generation of knowledge, partnerships, and innovative proposals that contribute to the responsible management of religious tourism.
During the press conference, the main pillars of the congress were presented, ranging from the promotion of a strategic vision of religious tourism as a tool for social cohesion and cultural preservation, to addressing key technical aspects such as visitor management, the use of new technological tools, heritage interpretation, and specialized communication, among others. The role of local communities in shaping authentic, inclusive, and sustainable experiences was also highlighted.
The selection of El Salvador as the host country for this international congress reflects its rich cultural heritage, deep-rooted religious traditions, and its potential as an emerging destination in the field of faith-based tourism.
In this regard, the press conference made it possible to highlight the country’s commitment to developing initiatives that integrate identity, heritage, and economic opportunities for local communities.
