ROYAL AIR MAROC BEGINS A HISTORIC EXPANSION IN THE SPANISH MARKET

  • Present in the Spanish market for more than 50 years, Royal Air Maroc, the national airline of the Kingdom of Morocco, continues to grow, offering its passengers a dense and diversified network of connections between Morocco, Spain and the rest of the world.

Following the announcement of the opening of direct routes between Casablanca and Bilbao and Casablanca and Alicante, the company, a member of the oneworld alliance, is strengthening its network connecting Morocco and Spain with the launch of new regular air routes between northern Morocco and Spanish cities. Three regular direct routes will connect the Moroccan city of Tetouan with Barcelona, Malaga and Madrid.

Three other direct connections will link Tangier with the same Spanish cities, namely Malaga, Barcelona and Madrid. A seventh regular air route will connect Nador with Barcelona.

Nine Spanish cities now connected to five Moroccan destinations

Thanks to the launch of these new routes, the company now operates at nine Spanish airports (Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Malaga, Seville, Las Palmas, Tenerife, Bilbao and Alicante) with departures from five Moroccan cities (Casablanca, El Aaiún, Tangier, Tetouan and Nador), with a total of more than 80 weekly flights.

These new routes are part of Royal Air Maroc’s development plan, and more specifically the ‘point-to-point’ section, which aims to strengthen connectivity between major national destinations — particularly the northern region of Morocco — and the main European source markets, such as Spain.

Backed by strong traffic growth between Morocco and the United Kingdom and nearly 480,000 passengers carried in 2025, these new openings aim to meet the growing demand from various categories of customers (domestic and international tourists, Moroccan and African diasporas, business travellers, etc.). They also contribute to strengthening economic, tourist and human exchanges between the two countries.

This ambitious expansion consolidates Royal Air Maroc’s role as a strategic air bridge between Morocco and Spain. It also significantly strengthens the connectivity offered by the Casablanca hub, allowing travellers from the Spanish destinations served to more easily access the company’s extensive African and international network.

Royal Air Maroc in Spain: 50 years of service providing enhanced connectivity

With a long-standing presence in Spain spanning several decades, Royal Air Maroc was one of the first airlines to establish permanent air links between Morocco and Spain.

Royal Air Maroc’s regional office, based in Madrid, has several local offices covering key areas such as Andalusia, Catalonia and the Canary Islands, giving it a wide territorial network and greater proximity to market players.

In addition to its own agencies, Royal Air Maroc has a particularly dense distribution network in Spain, comprising several thousand points of sale, illustrating the company’s strong roots and commercial dynamism throughout the Spanish territory.

Thanks to its constant commitment to the Spanish market, one of the most strategic for the company in Europe, Royal Air Maroc is consolidating its role as a privileged air bridge between Morocco and Spain.

Development plan: towards a new dimension for Royal Air Maroc

Royal Air Maroc, the flagship of the Moroccan flag in the air transport sector and present in Africa since its creation in 1957, has embarked on a new course with the signing of a program contract with the government for the period 2023-2037.

The company currently focuses its traffic on the Casablanca hub, which provides connections to a geographical area limited to part of Western Europe in the north and West Africa in the south. In addition to this traffic, there are a number of long-haul routes in the Americas and the Middle East. Royal Air Maroc aims to move from being a traditional airline with a regional north-south medium-haul hub to a global airline with a higher growth rate, operating a transcontinental north-south and east-west hub. This hub will be reinforced as part of a new point-to-point approach, through a series of air bases located in the most important cities of the Kingdom, which will connect them with the main cities that supply tourists and those that are home to the vast majority of Moroccans around the world and the African diasporas.

Specifically, the company will have a fleet of 200 aircraft that will carry nearly 32 million passengers per year. A plan to open new routes through the company’s hub in Casablanca and through point-to-point flights will be launched between now and 2037, with more than a hundred new international destinations around the world to improve the Kingdom’s connections.

Internationally:

  • 73 new destinations in Europe
  • 12 new destinations in Africa
  • 13 new destinations in America
  • 10 new destinations in Asia and the Middle East

To reach a fleet of 200 aircraft, the company has recently launched a tender for the acquisition of 188 aircraft, which will be progressively incorporated until 2037.

In the meantime, the company has strengthened its fleet with the arrival of new B-787-9 Dreamliners and B-737 MAX aircraft, and plans to introduce new aircraft before the end of 2026, offering greater comfort and improved connectivity. Royal Air Maroc’s fleet will thus grow from the current 62 aircraft to 72 aircraft in 2026.

Thanks to these acquisitions, the company has expanded its network with the opening and resumption of new domestic and international routes in Africa, Europe, South America, and Asia, including Los Angeles, St. Petersburg, São Paulo, Toronto, Bilbao, Alicante, Catania, Naples, Zurich, Munich, Beijing, Sal Island, Abuja, and N’Djamena, among others. Several new routes are also planned in the medium and long term.

Royal Air Maroc, member of the oneworld alliance

Royal Air Maroc, the first African airline to join the oneworld alliance in 2020, alongside prestigious global airlines, has access to a network of more than 900 destinations in 170 countries. Eligible passengers, particularly Business Class customers and members of the Safar Flyer loyalty program, enjoy access to a range of exclusive services across the oneworld network: more than 600 VIP lounges worldwide, priority check-in and boarding lanes, and, at some airports, access to fast-track services. In addition, the Safar Flyer program, which allows miles to be earned and used on all member airlines, is fully recognized within the alliance, reinforcing customer loyalty and the competitiveness of the offering.

Beyond these customer benefits, membership in oneworld allows Royal Air Maroc to be part of a structured ecosystem of cooperation, conducive to the exchange of best practices and digital innovation, which promotes the continuous modernization of the company.

The company has also signed several codeshare agreements with other world-renowned airlines, with the aim of improving connectivity between Morocco and many countries around the world.
