  • From 21 September to 18 October, the Colectivo’s chefs will be presenting their interpretations of this traditional recipe to showcase the fresh, seasonal produce from the Baix Llobregat Agricultural Park.

The bounty of the Baix Llobregat Agricultural Park’s vegetable gardens finds one of its finest expressions in samfaina, particularly at the end of summer, when it still yields large tomatoes, peppers, aubergines, onions and courgettes. Cooked over a low heat, these ingredients take centre stage in one of the tastiest and most versatile recipes in Catalan cuisine. A dish that is a true symphony of flavours, colours and textures, and which champions the use of leftovers and locally sourced produce.

With this focus on local and seasonal produce, the Consorci de Turisme del Baix Llobregat and the Baix Llobregat Agricultural Park are launching the La Samfaina al Baix Llobregat campaign, which, from 21 September to 18 October, invites us to discover different interpretations of this traditional dish at the restaurants of the Sabors de l’Horta collective.

For four weeks, 32 restaurants in the Baix Llobregat, all members of Sabors de l’Horta, will offer different ways to sample and enjoy this dish. A timeless, flavourful and versatile recipe, full of nuances, which each chef will make their own through original creations that remain true to the ingredients whilst embracing creativity.

Local produce, farmers, cuisine and the region

The campaign, which also has the support of the Baix Llobregat Regional Council and the Xarxa de Productes de la Terra, aims to highlight the value of local produce, its producers and the region’s cuisine, as well as to raise the profile of restaurants that prioritise fresh, seasonal ingredients from the Baix Llobregat Agricultural Park.

In fact, this initiative comes at a particularly challenging time for the agricultural sector. High temperatures and the effects of climate change are making the work of producers increasingly difficult, as they face tougher growing conditions. That is why, now more than ever, bringing produce from the Agricultural Park to restaurant tables is also a way of recognising the efforts of local farmers and supporting the continuation of agricultural activity in the region.

At the same time, this commitment to locally sourced cuisine offers a delicious opportunity to discover the Baix Llobregat through its gastronomy, supporting the restaurants that use local produce and the farmers who make it possible.

To bring this initiative even closer to the public, the campaign will also include a prize draw via Turisme Baix Llobregat’s Instagram account. There will be five double prizes, each consisting of a set menu for two people at one of the participating restaurants in the Sabors de l’Horta scheme. The prize draw will run from 24 September to 4 October, with the winners announced on 5 October.
