- The sector is adapting to the demand for exclusivity and disconnection from couples, who account for 63% of bookings.
- Accommodation includes gastronomic experiences, wellness and social leisure in stays ranging from pitches for €30 to glamping for €400 per night.
‘Adults-only’ accommodation is no longer an exception, but has become a category in its own right within Spanish tourism. The camping sector is positioning itself as the perfect ally, offering travellers peace and quiet, gourmet experiences and opportunities to socialise, responding to an undeniable demographic reality: the bulk of its customers are adults travelling alone, as a couple or with friends.
According to data from Pitchup.com, the leading platform for camping and outdoor accommodation bookings, 75% of occupancy recorded in Spain so far this year corresponds to adult-only bookings. This data highlights the need for spaces designed for relaxation, tranquillity and more sophisticated experiences. On the platform, searches starting with the ‘adults only’ filter have increased by 30% compared to last year.
A new option to consider
The strength of ‘adults-only’ tourism as another travel option is comparable to the popularity of family-oriented accommodation, rural tourism, and pet-friendly travel. According to a report by the Spanish Confederation of Hotels and Tourist Accommodation (CEHAT), this type of tourism accounts for at least 5% of the national tourism market.
In this context, Pitchup.com is joining the trend and the platform already has a network of 420 ‘adults-only’ campsites globally, six of which are located in Spain.
“We are seeing how the concept of camping is evolving towards much more personalised experiences. The rise in popularity of “adults only” accommodation is reflected in our data, with almost 300,000 users applying the “adults only” filter in the last year, more people than ever before applying it as their first filter. Travellers are looking for places where they can disconnect, immerse themselves in their surroundings and enjoy unique experiences,” says Dan Yates, Founder and Managing Director of Pitchup.com.
Furthermore, the price range demonstrates the versatility and economic potential of the sector, allowing for stays ranging from €30 for simple pitches to €400 per night for luxury glamping accommodation.
Privacy and disconnection define the profile of the adult traveller
Couples are the most common profile, accounting for 63% of bookings by travellers who opt for this type of tourism. The characteristics of the ‘adults only’ campsites in the Pitchup.com network reflect a preference for social leisure within the facilities, with 75% of the offering in Spain including a bar, club or outdoor swimming pool. Likewise, the accommodation focuses on gastronomic offerings and wellness services, with 40% of establishments having their own restaurant and 40% offering wellness services such as a jacuzzi.
The complementary offerings of the surrounding area also play a key role in choosing ‘adults-only’ tourism. In this regard, the isolated location of the Zielo Las Beatas glamping site invites total disconnection, with astro-tourism being one of the most popular activities.
Thanks to its strategic location, Go Spain allows travellers to immerse themselves in the culture and cuisine of the white village of Alhaurín Grande and explore the nature trails of the Sierra de Mijas.
For their part, the cabins at Fuente del Lobo are committed to seasonal sports, with easy access to the Sierra Nevada ski resort and cycling routes during the summer.
