Spain has been recognised as the Best European Destination by Irish travel agents at the latest edition of the Irish Travel Trade Awards, held at the Clayton Hotel in Dublin. This recognition from the Irish sector reinforces Spain’s leading position and our country’s commitment to a high-quality, sustainable and responsible tourism model.
These awards, voted for by Irish tourism industry staff, recognise excellence and hard work by tourism professionals in all areas: tour operators, airports, airlines, cruise lines, travel agencies and technology providers.
The gala, hosted by well-known presenter Jennifer Zaparelli, brought together more than 300 guests, establishing itself as one of the most important events on the professional tourism calendar in Ireland. Among those in attendance were leading representatives from the sector, editors and journalists, as well as members of the Department of Tourism, representatives from Iberia and Spanish destinations such as Salou Tourism and Costa del Sol Tourism, among others.
The award given to Spain reflects the strong tourism relationship between the two countries: in the first nine months of the year, 2,441,713 Irish travellers chose Spain as their destination, representing an increase of 10.8% over the same period last year. In addition, tourist spending grew by 13.9% year-on-year, confirming the importance of Spanish destinations for Irish tourists.
In this edition, the Spanish Tourist Office in Dublin sponsored the Sustainability and Culture Award, reinforcing Spain’s commitment to responsible, high-quality tourism.
