The island’s Greek theatres and archaeological parks become evocative settings for classical performances, concerts and live shows.
In Sicily, summer can also be enjoyed after sunset, amidst ancient amphitheatres, temples, Mediterranean landscapes and shows under the stars. From the great classics at the Greek Theatre in Syracuse to the festivals at Segesta, Selinunte, Morgantina and Tindari, the island invites travellers to experience culture in a unique and exclusive way: by attending a live event in places where art, history and landscape come together.
Experiencing a cultural event in an ancient theatre or within an archaeological park transforms the Sicilian summer into a unique experience: not just a visit, but an immersive evening in which the stage, music, words and landscape engage in dialogue with the audience.
From major classical productions to multidisciplinary festivals, the 2026 season offers a wide and varied programme: ancient theatre and new plays, concerts at dawn and under the stars, international productions, literary events, dance performances, opera, symphonic music and musical fusions. The common thread is the opportunity to experience cultural heritage as a living space, open to participation and capable of embracing different forms of expression.
Segesta: theatre, music, dance and stargazing
From 26 July to 30 August 2026, the Segesta Archaeological Park will host the Segesta Theatre Festival, with performances taking place between the Ancient Theatre and the Temple of Aphrodite Urania. The 2026 edition, dedicated to transformation, offers theatre, music, dance, choreographed performances, national premieres, dawn performances, stargazing sessions and workshops, creating a programme in which innovation and tradition coexist in the park’s most iconic locations.
Among the events announced: on 26 July, the national premiere of “L’Arca di Noè” by Giampiero Pizzol, directed by Piero Ganci, a brilliant reinterpretation of the biblical story of the Flood; on 31 July, “Emozioni”, a concert dedicated to the repertoire of Lucio Battisti and Mogol; on 5 and 6 August, “Sword of Wisdom” by the Taiwanese company U-Theatre, a show combining percussion, martial arts, dance and ritual movement; on 12 August, “Stelle sopra il Tempio”, an evening of mythological tales about the sky and stargazing through telescopes; on 14 August, “Opplà Tour” by Avion Travel; on 22 and 23 August, “Oreste” by Euripides, in a version for under-35s.
Selinunte: five venues for concerts, theatre, dance and events
“Selinunte Estate 2026” transforms the Selinunte Archaeological Park, the Cusa Quarries and Pantelleria into a vast cultural stage spread across the region. The programme, the result of a collaboration between the Park and CoopCulture and developed through an open call for artists, runs from mid-July to September and spans five venues: Temple E, the Theatre, Baglio Florio, the Cusa Quarries and other locations within the Park.
The programme includes concerts, theatre performances, dance, talks and conferences featuring prominent authors, alongside established events such as the Festival della Bellezza and Teatri di Pietra. On 16 July 2026, at the foot of the Temple of Hera, Vinicio Capossela will perform “Ovunque Proteggi” as part of the Festival della Bellezza: twenty years after the album’s release, the concert will feature a complete rendition of the album, taking the audience on a musical journey through the sacred, myth, human nature and contemporary narrative.
Morgantina at Villa Romana del Casale
The Barbablù Fest 2026 is organising a musical programme designed to showcase the heritage through live events. The sixth edition of the festival intertwines music, culture and the evening atmosphere of the sites, transforming the Morgantina Archaeological Area into a venue for major concerts and events open to audiences of all kinds.
Among the events, on Saturday 25 July 2026 at 8.30 pm, Mario Biondi will bring the concert “This Is What You Are – 20th Anniversary Summer Tour” to Morgantina, dedicated to the twentieth anniversary of one of the artist’s most iconic tracks and conceived as a journey through soul, vocal elegance and international atmospheres. Noemi is scheduled to perform on 31 July, as part of a programme that confirms the festival’s role as a meeting point between contemporary music, the archaeological landscape and the promotion of the local area.
Tindari and the Tindari Festival
Among the most iconic venues of Sicily’s summer theatre and music season, Tindari holds a particularly prominent place. The theatre, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, hosts events in which the landscape becomes an integral part of the experience, enhancing the nocturnal and panoramic aspects of the live performance. From 3 July to 30 August 2026, the venue will host the 70th edition of the Tindari Festival, with a programme that weaves together classical and contemporary performances, confirming the site’s role not only as a place of remembrance, but also as a living stage for the languages of contemporary theatre.
The Stone Theatres and the 2026 Stone Theatres Opera Festival
During the summer, the ‘Stone Theatres’ network, of which Tindari is also a part, reaffirms Sicily’s commitment to transforming ancient theatres, archaeological sites and monumental locations into venues for live performances. The itinerary takes in some of the island’s most evocative sites, including the Ancient Theatre of Akrai in Palazzolo Acreide, the archaeological site of Eraclea Minoa, the Lilibeo Archaeological Park in Marsala, Palmintelli in Caltanissetta, Selinunte and other venues open to theatre, dance and music performances in a touring format. This itinerary also includes the ‘Festival Lírico de los Teatros de Piedra’, organised by the Coro Lírico Siciliano, scheduled from 12 July to 18 September 2026 under the theme ‘Caressing Eternity’. Following the success of last season, which attracted over 70,000 attendees and saw numerous sold-out performances, the festival returns with more than forty events, including operas, symphonic concerts, galas, musical fusions and productions designed to engage with the dramatic power of their host venues. The result is a journey across the entire region in which music comes to life “between the sky and the sea” and transforms each performance into an immersive experience, capable of uniting myth, voice, orchestra and landscape.
