THE BLACK TRUFFLE FAIR PAR EXCELLENCE IS COMING. THE SORIA TRUFFLE FAIR WILL LAUNCH ITS FRESH TRUFFLE AUCTION AND STRENGTHEN ITS INTERNATIONAL PROFILE

  • The 23rd Soria Truffle Fair, to be held in Abejar on the weekend of 14 and 15 February, is now one of the most important and prestigious events in the world of Tuber melanosporum.

  • The event, dedicated specifically to black truffles and truffle cultivation in general, will feature a spectacular truffle auction for the first time, as well as continuing to promote its culinary side with the National Gastronomic Competition and the harvesting of this fungus with the Truffle Hunt with Dogs.

Abejar smells of black truffles again… and this year there is also a sense of anticipation. The Soria Truffle Fair returns with important new features that reinforce its position as one of the major events on the national and international Tuber melanosporum calendar. This town, less than 30 km from the capital of the province of Soria and with only 300 inhabitants, created what was the first monographic event focusing on the black winter truffle, which today is a national and international benchmark. This year’s edition, to be held on the weekend of 14 and 15 February, not only maintains everything that has made it a benchmark, but also incorporates proposals designed to continue growing, surprising and attracting both professionals in the sector and an increasingly curious and loyal public.

Among the major new features of the Soria de Abejar Truffle Fair is the auction of fresh truffle lots, an initiative that promises to be one of the most exciting moments of the fair. The truffles, freshly selected and certified by the Abejar Truffle Market, will be the best at the fair and will be auctioned off under the watchful eye of leading restaurants, specialised hoteliers and visitors, who have already shown their interest in bidding for these authentic gastronomic gems. A spectacle that highlights the quality, origin and excellence of Soria truffles.

The 23rd Abejar Truffle Fair will feature 36 exhibitors, including nurseries and agricultural companies presenting the latest trends for truffle farms, essential machinery for truffle growers, truffle growers with their best fresh truffles and agri-food companies offering products made with truffles. A varied and high-quality exhibition that turns the fairgrounds into a real showcase for the sector, where professionals and visitors can discover, compare and learn.

One of the clear commitments of this edition is the expansion of the machinery area, which is growing both in space and content. Mechanisation is becoming an essential ally for the present and future of truffle farming, and the Fair reflects this with a larger exhibition area where visitors can see the latest innovations in tools, irrigation systems, sensors, management tools and specialised machinery. All of this is designed to facilitate work on truffle farms and improve the profitability of operations.

Abejar continues to reinforce the international vocation of the Soria Truffle Fair. This year, the programme includes expert speakers on truffle farming from different countries, broadening perspectives and experiences in an increasingly globalised market. The presence of foreign specialists underlines the international interest in the truffle farming model developed in Soria and consolidates Abejar as a meeting point for the exchange of knowledge on a global scale.

Gastronomy is once again one of the main pillars of the event. The National Truffle Gastronomic Competition already has a dozen restaurants from different parts of Spain registered, guaranteeing a high culinary standard and creative proposals where the truffle is the real star. Chefs will compete to demonstrate who knows how to extract the full aromatic and gastronomic potential of the black diamond, before a specialised jury and an audience that will not miss a single detail.

The Fair’s programme, which will take place over several days, will combine dissemination, entertainment and participation. The Scientific-Technical Seminar (Soria, Friday 13th February) will once again bring together researchers, technicians and professionals from the sector to address key issues such as the valorisation and marketing of truffles, the Protected Geographical Indication of Soria Truffles and the strategic challenges of truffle cultivation in a global context. The presentations are designed for both specialists and those who want to learn more about this exciting world.

During the weekend, the Abejar Exhibition Centre will be a hive of activity. There will be demonstrations of machinery in the field, truffle tasting workshops and truffle products, show cooking with renowned chefs, presentations, guided tours of truffle farms with demonstrations of truffle hunting with dogs, and eagerly awaited competitions such as “the biggest truffle” and “truffle hunting with dogs”, one of the most spectacular and popular events for the public.

The fair also maintains its festive and popular character with events such as the truffle vermouth, which livens up the streets and bars of Abejar, the special ‘With Truffle’ menus prepared for this edition by La Chistera Restaurant, and truffle product tastings throughout the weekend. Even music will have its place on the night of Saturday 14th February with a new edition of Trufa Rock.

All this in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, where locals, visitors and professionals share a table, conversation and a passion for truffles. Abejar once again demonstrates that rural areas can be a driving force for innovation, the economy and international promotion.

The Soria Truffle Fair not only has a significant economic and tourist impact on the region, but has also become an example of how a product of excellence can revitalise the area, attract talent and create opportunities.

With these new features, the Soria Truffle Fair is embarking on a new edition with the clear objective of continuing to grow without losing its essence: quality, knowledge, gastronomy and proximity. An essential event for those who live off truffles, cook with them and, above all, enjoy discovering everything that lies hidden beneath the soil of Soria’s pine forests.
